Depends on the phase of the moon. :D
Seriously I just listen to the music on the Christian radio station and don't know the musicians. I guess some of the songs that have recently touched me are by "Casting Crowns," but I won't say they are my favorite. HOw's that for a non-answer? :D
How long / short is your hair?

Generally speaking, what's your first thought in the mornings when you wake up?
"Dang. 6:30 again already."
(I don't like mornings... I dislike them almost as much as I dislike my job.)
...
I like Tarin's question... Generally speaking, what's your first thought in the mornings when you wake up?
lynnmosher
04-17-2008, 01:36 PM
Ahh...goody! I get to answer this one! My first thoughts are these...
Good morning, Lord! Thank You for another day of breathing, seeing, hearing, talking, walking, heart beating...and my name isn't listed in the obits today! Thank You for another day to praise You!
And so on and so forth...
-------
You must understand that, for a person with my condition, this is a huge overlooking of how I feel in the morning. I like this question as well, Ransom, so I'm passing it on again...
P.S. Ransom, do we need to pray for a new job for you?

Generally speaking, what's your first thought in the mornings when you wake up?
This depends on whether this is an alarm clock morning or a non-alarm clock morning. With the alarm clock, it's a 'dang, let's try to ignore the alarm clock and pretend I don't hear it.' Sometimes, since I have a news/talk station as my alarm, my first conscious WORDS will be yelling at the radio about something stupid I just heard some politician say.
Non-alarm clock... gotta feed the cats. (They're usually there begging for their food.)
..............................................
what IS your alarm clock? (radio, buzzer, a rooster?)

My alarm clocks would be my two children. We have a digital alarm clock with a buzzer, but I don't use it because my children do not sleep in...ever. I rarely sleep past 7:00. I wake up without an alarm clock even if my children don't wake me up first. I may be tired in the morning, but my body's internal clock still wakes me without an outside alarm.
Do you have ministry duties in church this weekend? Are you an usher, worship leader, Sunday school teacher, etc.?

Either Ewan MacGregor or James McAvoy. Of every star I've seen, they come the closest to getting both my looks and my personality down. Though Russell Crowe could also help on the personality front...

Have you ever seen the Northern Lights? Tell us about it if you have...
Yes, The Northern Lights are amazing. It's like celestial beings dancing through the dark sky. They start an off-white but as they dance their colors change to emerald green.fading and glowing, fading and glowing. the best is being in the open country because the colors are more intense and beautiful.

I think the British Virgin islands are only a couple miles from the US while Russia is across the Bering Strait. I'm not sure how far that is, but I don't think it's walking distance. Therefore, I think the answer would be United Kingdom, Mexico and Canada.
My favorite Professor was a POlitical Science Prof I had in college. He was very nice, had strong family values and encouraged students to examine and discuss their own points of view. He was the first Mormon person I ever knew.
I'm not sure what my favorite subject in school was. I think it depended on the quality of teacher. I liked history and English. I didn't really like math subjects. I majored in Psych and Poli Sci in college and Social Work in Grad school. I think I only majored in Poli Sci because I had interesting teachers. The classes were interesting.

Yes, that's correct. Little Diomede and Big Diomede islands are US and Russian. When the Bering Straight freezes in the middle of winter you can, quite literally, walk to Russia from AK. In fact somebody did it back when it was still USSR and got arrested (the Russian island is where a military installation is loced). Thankfully he was released after a very strong warning (from both gvts, I think) no to be pulling that stunt again.

Name one thing that has changed in your life since you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
There are so many things that changed, though at times it's felt like I've just turned around 360°...
One thing that has changed since I came to Christ is that I've never wanted to be a part of or envied mainstream culture. The things of Heaven, once I tasted them, were so infitinitely sweeter than anything the American dream or materialistic comforts could offer, that I've never looked fondly on "following the Joneses", or anyone else, since.
Being a bit of an odd duck, I always struggled with this when I was a kid, but when I came to Christ, I felt freed to be who I truly was. That much I have never slid back upon, hallaluJah!
...
What hasn't changed since you became a Christian? (Seems to be the easier question, doesn't it?)
(I don't think that's a good thing, necessarily...)
Cymrugirl
04-24-2008, 12:24 PM
Well, since I became a Christian when I was five, I'd say a lot has changed. To sum up, I have taken that journey familiar to many growing up as a Christian that leads from finding an identity in Christianity to finding an identity in Christ. They are very different identities, but when young, hard to discern. I am a completely different person than I was five years ago or ten years ago or fifteen years ago. You get the picture. ;)
*realizes this isn't an answer to Ran's question*
To better answer - the only thing that hasn't changed is my haircolor (though my eye color has) - my salvation - my reliance on Him - my need for Him. That need has only increased. :) My mere Christianity hasn't changed.

Have you ever had jury duty?
I've been called 4 times, and never had to go.
The first time, I'd just gotten married and had just moved from where I'd grown up to where I live now, and got called from where I used to live. When my mom left my dad, it happened to her, too. She was steamed, since she'd always wanted to do jury duty, and had never been called, but my Dad had been called twice while they were married. (He was even foreman on one!)
The 2 - 4 times were for the same thing, but they always got cancelled, and said I'd be called back at a later time. I never got to go in. I'm still miffed about that one. I really would like to do jury duty, but I'd REALLY prefer it to be a murder trial. That would be... cool in some ways, horrifying in others.

Wow, I've never heard of that one! I'd be interested to know how old it is and what it's about. I'm assuming it's German?
I think the oldest ones I've seen in their entirety are Charlie Chaplin shorts from 1915/1916/1917ish. I've seen bits and pieces of The Birth of a Nation, and in my film theory class in college, the instructor had us watch Metropolis.
No, I can't juggle. Well, I juggle the books a lot, making sure we can make it to pay day a lot and get our bills paid on time. They're getting better, less juggling, more managing!

Sometimes, I eat on a schedule. More often, I eat when I can, or when I'm hungry. Lately, it's more when I'm hungry. The baby seems to like to eat at strange times (I had to have a cereal bar right before bed last night!)

Oh wow this is so hard, it would have to be some of the beauty of this world that I have seen. I love Utah, and Montana, the mountains of Oregon and Washington state. There is so many things. One thing that I recall is being on top of a mountain in Idaho at night. I got out to take a walk around the trailer while we pulled along side of the road and I looked up not sure why but man the stars seemed so beautiful. most of the time when we see the stars there is a street light or something to take away from their beauty.
On that night there was no lights on our truck just the moon and the stars it was amazing. But I'm still not sure if it's number one on the list.

Well I have to answer the question how many states have I been in. It's easier to say I ain't been to Alaska and Hawaii. I have been in every state many many times. i've been really close to Mexico yards away I think but never crossed and I've been to Canada.
Trucking is a great way to see the country. I traveled in every in 48 states and Canada for 18 years. I couldn't name all the capitols. But I do have something cool. A map with every road I was on it. I've hit so many roads and we would take different roads just so we could highlight another road. LOl
How many state capitol buildings have you been to?
Actually in the building I'd say none. But I have drove around many of them. I once was on the back streets of DC unloading and I could see the capitol in the background, while we stood around the homeless people warming themselves by a can that was on fire. What does that tell you.

I've sat in a Kenworth--while parked--once. Hubby being a diesel mechanic, I've been in and around the shops with them for six and a half years.
What questions bugs me most about truckers? Why do they have to hug one side of the lines or the other? Especially, it seems to me, in rush hour traffic. And, why will they start trying to pass another trucker on a hill when both are losing power, and all it's doing is irritating the people behind them? And, why will they even attempt to pass another truck--in heavy traffic--when they're only going a mile or two an hour faster than the other truck? Why can they not get BEHIND the other truck, let the rest of the traffic pass them, then pass the other truck? Or why can't the other truck slow down JUST LONG ENOUGH to let the other truck by? This drives me INSANE when I'm going home in the evenings.

Thats more than one question. LOL
Why do they have to hug one side of the lines or the other? Most of the time when they are hugging the left lane is because the car is taking to long to pass them and it is a hint for the car to go on and get around me cause any of my tires could blow up at any minute and knock you off the road. Another reason is because they have been behind that wheel for too long and they are bored or tired of looking at the same thing all day.
And, why will they start trying to pass another trucker on a hill when both are losing power, and all it's doing is irritating the people behind them?
when you drive for a living you don't always go around thinking may be i'm slowing someone down. you're just thinking. that stupid shipper kept me there for 3 hours loading me and I'm running late, i didn't get to eat today and im hungry, i really need to make up some time because I know i'll have trouble finding some where to sleep tonight. don't take it personally truckers most of the time are just trying to get down the road and conduct business. They don't always think about the others that they are slowing down.
And, why will they even attempt to pass another truck--in heavy traffic--when they're only going a mile or two an hour faster than the other truck? 60 percent of the time when the trucker that is in the passing going around another trucker what you don't see is that the slow truck usually speeds up. I don't know why they do this but it happened to us all the time. you would get out in the left lane to pass another truck and then they speed up then you are kind of stuck. it's not safe to slow back down and get in behind them so you just trudge on and try to pass them.
Why can they not get BEHIND the other truck, let the rest of the traffic pass them, then pass the other truck?
that sounds like good sense but let me tell you most of the time if you wait to get a break in traffic you won't get one. Truckers are on deadlines they are not out there to be in the way they are trying to get from point a to point b in the fastest way they can. they are bigger than everyone else so they often get in the way.
Or why can't the other truck slow down JUST LONG ENOUGH to let the other truck by? this now is a great question... and i can't give you a reason other than the fact that truckers must hate to get passed. also some trucks are governed down so that they can only run so fast so that is why some of them don't just gas it and go around the other truck. we were blessed when we would get in that situation we could speed up go around them and then slow back down.
How is that lol sorry the answer is so long.
Jacks.

Tw's was skipped. My job that was the most interesting to other people was Stalking Victim Advocate. I worked for a mental health agency as a liaison in the prosecutor's office. In Ohio, the stalking law states that a victim must be threatened with physical harm or develop mental distress from the perpetrator's behavior. Even if it is obvious that the victim does have mental distress, a mental health professional needs to be able to label that mental distress for it to hold up in court. I was the mental health professional. I gathered evidence, interviewed clients, testified in cases. Sometimes I was interviewed by the media. There were some interesting and weird cases.

I had a Meier Briggs test about 6 years ago, but alas, I can't remember what it said about me! It's like 4 or 5 letters long, right, based on prominence of different characteristics? If you go with the old-type personalities, I'm mostly a mix between Sanguin & Phlegmatic (I think), with a little bit of the one that's not Choleric mixed in, just for kicks. (Since the non-Choleric and the Phlegmatic are opposites, this makes for an interesting clash in myself from time to time.)

Oh, right! When I had the test 6 years ago, I was an ISTJ. I remember that now. :) And, I think I got the old Greek ones turned around... I think I'm primarily Sanguine/Melancholy.
As for your question, TW, I've been to several seminars by Dr. Robert Rohm who assigns letters to the 4 basic personalities -- I S C & D. Roughly, I think I relates to Sanguine, S to Melancholy, C to Choleric, and D to Phlegmatic (I may have C and D confused--it's been a while). I'm primarily an S/I with some D in there and little to no C--C is the one where you're incredibly detail oriented, which about the only areas I am so is in my writing or when I'm balancing the checkbook.

Ideal job would be travelling to combat shooting schools, going through the training, writing an article evaluating the training, and taking the photos to go w/ the mag article.
Then doing other freelance writing / photography for ohter mags, and working on my other writing for submittal to book publishers. As well, maybe getting the occassional gig to teach / speak on any or all of the above at various times.

Just so you guys will know. most people that have Tinittus ringing of the ears stays there all the time. That is what is so hard to deal with it. Cause it can be louder than many things. When I first got it i was heart broke that I would never be able to hear the rain drops falling. My dad has it really bad from working in the mines. He can shave his face with his razor and hear his ears over the razor it's that loud. let me give you all a bit of advice when around loud noises please wear ear plugs.
Right now i have on my fish tanks 5 of them, and i can still hear the ringing in my left ear tonight. some times you tune it out and others times you just pray. Mine comes from years of being around big trucks and loud noises. had I known that i could wear ear plugs and prevent this you bet I would have.
My favorite drink right now is rootbeer, but it changes. sometimes it's Chocolate milk.
What is the nosiest thing you are around in a days time and how long are you around it?
Rachel E.

The noisiest thing, Jacks? It would have to be my siblings. Right now there are 5 of them at home 10 and under agewise. They can get very loud. Oh, and I'm around them all day. Do I need ear protection?
How was your day?
jacks girl
04-30-2008, 10:30 PM
You may need ear protection. LOL. I have a noise meter and you would be surprised at how noise some things are. A toilet flushing is very noise and you should wear ear plugs when you sweep or blow dry your hair and mow the grass or ride 4 wheelers.
My day was busy today resting my feet cause i was on them a lot. been doing some spring cleaning im a pack rat so me and hubby took a lot of things out to a second home we own. it's in sad shape but we keep junk in it. stuff we more than likely should toss out. LOL. I say own i should say buying. LOL.
Do you wear ear plugs when you mow the grass?
When i used to mow the grass i didn't, now we pay the next door neighbour to do it.
Though i probably should have, but that was years and years ago.

"Boy, you're gonna put an eye out w/ that thing."
I really don't remember any "sayings." and what I do remember I don't want to repeat.
HIJACK ALERT! I'm going to second Jack's earlier comment about wearing ear protection when around noisy activities. When I was growing up in AK we went shooting w/out ear protection, snow machining, flying (private planes), 3/4-wheeling, motorcyle riding.
I've since gotten smarter and when I did cut the grass and do lawn care at my old church I wore ear protection, and the shooting ranges I went to required hearing protection to get on the range. Thankfully I never was around extremely loud noises (large caliber firearms, jet engines, etc), what I was around was moderately loud, and when I was in that environment it was not for lengthy time periods. I don't go to concerts, and this is one reason why.
We now return you to our regularly scheduled thread.
I'm going to repeat my last question, since Ransom hijacked it last time -

Question still stands.. What is something about yourself we don't all ready know?

if you mean have I taken them from their natural surroundings and thrown them in the mix in another story , making cameo appearances, again no - same reason.
I may in the future do both though. :D

Nope don't have goldfish, but have spent nights in homes that do, and never noticed that they went nuts. But I don't study fish for very long.

Yes, if I don't put on some protection! I hate getting mesquito bites (west nile and all) so I will use bug spray but I hate using it too (spraying poison on my skin which goes into the bloodstream). If it's just flies out because we're on the deck BBQ'n then I just rub a bit of dish soap in my hands and rub it on my arms and legs... they don't like that! favorite musical instrument..?

Listerine? Uh... isn't that a type of mouthwash or something? Nope, don't use it on mosquitoes. I try to put Off! bug spray on.

I like this question. What is closest to you that is square in shape. Not counting the usual Computer screens and fax machines.

that's correct. and you knew that w/out searching? (righter did you pm her the answer? :D)

I think this is the current question w/ none being skipped:
I am looking at a couple of tea tins, they're square on top and bottom
my question is what would it take for you to give up writing? (you are in a situation you have no control over - there is no choice, what would it take to drive you to give up your writing?)
I stand corrected:
What's your favorite animal and what's its name? (And Jacks, we already know your answer to this question! LOL)
I'll answer: Cat - "Tribble"
