Seems this guys name never goes away. Some claim that he is THE false prophet and that:

You can "google" him and find out more than you really want to know. I did not post them because they almost always seem to incriminate current preachers/teachers right along with him. I suppose this is the part that bothers me! (that main stream preachers/teachers are associated with him)

I'm reading a book by a Christian lawyer called "THe Hidden Dangers of the Rainbow". According to this, Maitraya - the name anyway - comes from Buddhism. But in essence, the New Agers have taken this and made it a one-size-fits-all-coming-"messiah" figure. In a word, it sounds very anti-christ-like.

A newspaper article claimed he (calling himself the "Christ") is now here - and that was featured in 1982. I don't know if he is the antichrist - he's gotta be pushing 60 by now - but there is a lot of speculation. According to what I've read, only his high acolytes know his identity, and they say when the time is right, he will reveal himself over TV and via telepathic transmissions.

From the book I mentioned above by Constance Cumbey:

A letter from an organization called "Mission of Maitreya" from Albuquerque, New Mexico, contains the following statement:

"The word of Maitreya has always been associated with messiah, who will come to unify the world and synthesize all religions under one banner. This expectation is now fulfilled. Known to Christians and Jews as Messiah, Buddhists and Hindus as Maitreya and Moslems as Mahdi or Mohammad. Maitreya is called by all these names. The names Maitreya, Messiah and Mohammad are given to him; he did not call himself by these names, so besides other prophecies, the prophecy that 'many will come in my name' would be fulfilled."

Creepy, to say the least. The dude claims that Jesus was his disciple. Blasphemy, to say the least.

I do know though that until the "real" 2nd Coming, Satan will continue to be alive and doing fairly well on planet earth. But...those of us who continue to study and converse with "the real thing" will surely recognize fools gold when we see it. Don't you think?
