We're having a blizzard right now in Ohio. They say it's going to get worse, and it won't be over until Sunday. I'm watching it from my window. Hot chocolate, anyone?

You know how many blizzards have been "coming our way" just for them to turn into cold, slushy rain as they hit the Eastern seaboard? It's aggravating!

Well... lets hope that it doesn't turn to slushy rain this time and you get some snow to play in. :)
We've gotten a decent amount of snow and to my frustration I can't find any boots for the kids. Hmm.... gonna hit the stores tonight I think and see if we can't find some. I hate not being able to let the kids go out an play in the snow. :(

Spring... it's been in the sixties as much as it's been below freezing this Winter. I'd be more excited about Spring's arrival if Winter had actually come by now!

I agree with that sentiment. I would feel the same if I had experienced the sixties so much this winter - but we have blessed/cursed with actual winter temps for the first time in years.
Maybe there's a pocket of hot air somewhere near Long Island that keeps breaking up the snow?

It's more likely to be in Jersey, as the snows usually come from that direction* and turn to run by the time they get to the City and cross over to Long Island.
Besides – Jersey's the cause of all the other problems in the Northeast, why not blame them for this?
* - Technically, it's NJ that's to the north of NYC, not Upstate.

I was thinking that it's amazing that being 20 minutes north (from Professor) made such a difference because the snow was up to my ankles around 2:30PM yesterday when I was shoveling my driveway. I have seen the difference that a mere 10 miles or so can make. Delaware County that is just north of Franklin county seems to get a lot more snow. I was an undergrad at Mount Union, which like Akron, is in the snow belt. You definitely get more snow up there. Though looking outside now, I bet Professor has more the 4 inches he counted on.

Do you work for a church? Will your church cancel services? My husband was just telling me that he doesn't know how we will get to church tomorrow because our street never gets plowed. I live in an area that gets Columbus street clearing and they don't do the residential neighborhood side roads. But I've never known them to cancel a regular church service. Maybe they will. If they don't, I feel I need to get there. Three of my main teachers for tomorrow went to West Liberty, WV this weekend, so I'm wondering if they even know about all this snow. My family is in Martins Ferry, Ohio right noext to Wheeling, WV and West Liberty. She had no snow at all when I last talked to her a couple hours ago. She is only 2 hours to the east.
We canceled our missions conference that was scheduled for tonight. It is too bad because the missionary speakers were already here. They may not be able to come back in April when we reschedule.

I've all ready been called. Church is cancelled for tomorrow. My daughter had an Arbonne Party today and had to cancel. Just about everything here is cancelled. Too bad about your missions conference, Patty. I know what you mean about having to be at church if it's open. I was a children's pastor for 20 years. Even in bad snow storms, unless church was cancelled, I had to be there. One church I was at for 16 years never cancelled no matter what. Stay safe.

I live in a very small town. On Tuesday morning, it snowed only on one half of it. Mine. Weirdest thing ever. I was pushing snow off my vehicle in near white out conditions, sliding all over the road, getting stuck - in short, having a treacherous time, and then I crossed one overpass, and swoosh, the snow was just gone. When I got into the office with my snow boots and hair sticking out in all directions, my co-workers thought I had gone off the deep end. Plus I was saying "snow.....snow.....there's no snow....." LOL
It turned out to be a pretty funny recounting on the news that night.

That reminds me of an incident from my childhood. It was raining in our back yard and wasn't raining in the front of the house. I remember it quite vividly. I could run in and out of the rain. I was amazed.
Tamara, our Senior Pastor is from Minnesota and loves snow. He doesn't think Ohio gets enough snow, so I'll be surprised if he cancels church services. Initially, he didn't want to cancel the missions conference. The conference is a joint project with other churches in our network, and the other Pastors wanted to cancel.

Yes I remember that happening, on one side of the church it was raining, on the other side it was dry. Another time, driving dow a stretxh of road, it was raining in one lane, and not the opposite bound lane. Hey those rain / snow clouds have to stop somewhere.
And to everybody talking about cancelling events, around here they see a snowflake, they're closing the roads, cancelling school, etc. Back in AK, I remember the busses being cancelled ONE time b/c the snow got so bad you couldn't tell where the sky ended, and the road began, and you couldn't tell the edge of the road from the ditch.
ah, snow, snow, beautiful snow. I wish it all to those who want it, and none for you who don't appreciate it.

I'm happy to report that we are getting some snow, too! Probably not a blizzard, but hey, something is better than nothing!
This morning when I went to Walmart, it was just raining. When I came out of Wallyworld, it was the rain/sleet/snow mixture. Two hours later, the snow was coming down heavily, making it hard to see to drive. It cleared for a little while - just enough to clear the main roads, but not the back roads - and now, it's snowing again! Yippee! :D **Sorry, Ransom! :(**
It's strange to think that tomorrow we will be on Daylight Savings Time!
And about the weird weather happenings. . . Years ago, when my parents and I were traveling in Colorado on a two-lane road, we could see snow coming down on the road a fair distance ahead. We drove into it but then it stopped. Strange. . . but neat, too! :)
Note: We live near Parkersburg.

As far as I know my Church will be having morning service today (Stow, Ohio). I however can't get out of my drive and onto my street (L.A.) and haven't even heard any vehicles out this morning!
My house sets up on a hill but the snow is still deep even with all the wind. I took a yardstick out and measured the snow, and even up on top of my hill it is 12" and the drifts out in the yard are 24"+ ... ON TOP OF A HILL!!!
I'm not looking forwards to shoveling the drive, concrete and inclined down to the street. I've had the van slide sideways trying to keep from hitting cars that sped up trying to get past my drive before I hit the bottom of the drive!

I know! What's that all about?
My daughter goes to a Dublin school, and it was closed. I was surprised. The closing was already posted on the district website last evening. Dublin doesn't close when the other schools are closed, and they seem to wait until the last minute (5:30a.m.). But not this time.
We had church service on Sunday, and I went. We had a low (but decent considering the circumstances) turnout. Some of the roads were treacherous on Sunday morning, but we don't have 4-wheel drive.

I would not have gone to church this past Sunday if I wasn't in charge of the children's ministry. I was a little disappointed that our subdivision had already been plowed on Sunday morning because I was planning to be stuck in our neighborhood. Is that terrible?

Does anyone in Ohio remember the blizzard of '78? I was in my first year of college at the time.
I remember it. I was in the second grade. School was dismissed early. Neither my mom and my friend's mom were outside waiting for us, so we decided to walk home. We figured our moms didn't know about our early dismissals. I took my brother, in Kindergarten at the time, and walked home with my friend, Tonya. It was about two and a half miles. My mom was panicked when we arrived. Now that I have children about the same age, I can imagine how she felt. But as an 8 year-old, I figured it was best to walk home since she wasn't there to get me. I didn't think I had much choice.
We hardly ever see snow in Northern Ireland these winters. In fact all our seasons seem the same now in varying degrees of cold and er...a little warmth and nothing but constant rain.
So has your climate been changing? I wonder if Ireland's climate is something like Seattle's.

There's no truer statement than the old adage "you can't control the weather." You can't even predict it with complete certainty. As advanced as our meteorological forecasting techniques are these days, weather systems are changeable forces of nature. They can come on quickly, switch direction without notice and build in intensity in a short period of time. Whether you're at home, on foot, in your car or at work, a winter snowstorm can catch you off guard.
Snowstorm Image Gallery
Rob Casey/Getty Images
A snowplow and pickup truck brave the roads during a
winter storm. See more pictures of snowstorms.
The National Snow and Ice Data Center defines a blizzard as a "violent winter storm, lasting at least 3 hours, which combines below freezing temperatures and very strong wind laden with blowing snow that reduces visibility to less than 1 km." If a blizzard is bad enough, snow plows and salt trucks won't even brave the elements. Roads become desolate ice paths, businesses shut down, schools close and grocery stores get picked clean. If your home loses power and you have no backup heating system in place, your very life becomes at risk. In this article, we'll give you 10 tips on how to survive a snowstorm.

Well Patty I remember years ago we always had a lot of deep snow and perhaps it lasted a few weeks. Now it is just a slight covering when it of if it comes and it only stays about two or three days. Last year we had the wettest summer on record. It just seems to be one whole wet season all year round now.
