Anyone that knows me knows that (even though I naturally have low blood pressure) my blood pressure always reaches normal levels--and above?--whenever Oprah is mentioned....Here's a link to "The Oprafication of Eastern Mysticism (http://www.crosswalk.com/spirituallife/women/11569798/)" at Crosswalk.

(And with feeling no condemnation whatsoever before my Maker, I wouldn't have had to add the softer words about her that the author felt bound to pay in the first sentence of the last paragraph. The last sentence of the article stands on its own.)

I don't watch Oprah. But wasn't she heavily promoting "The Secret" a while back? I thumbed through a copy of it at Sam's Club a few months ago, and the New Age teaching in it was really quite scary.

The Secret is Joel Osteen for non-evangelicals.

Oprah knows how to make money and influence people. New Age mysticism, with its downplaying of rational thought and promises of present fulfillment, riches and health are perfect for a canniving, Machiavellian media mogul.

There is enough mysticism in all of her stuff to not totally creep out a large swath of Christians, but also attract the "spiritual but not religious" bunch.
