I'm enjoying the special features for the most recent version of 3:10 to Yuma at the moment - after finally enjoying yet another knockout performance by Russell Crowe. I'm so sad that I never could get to the theater to see this on the big screen. Beautiful scenic shots.
My question now is has anyone seen the original? My parents ensure me that it is definitely wonderful and stars the comparable Glenn Ford as Ben Wade. I'm a Glenn Ford fan - but I admit, I may be ruined for life as far as ever enjoying the old version. I don't know though - of all older films - westerns seem to have the longest lasting appeal just because the stories and the actors have such a classic quality to them.
I'm not even sure the original is on DVD - but I just may have to track it down. If this film didn't get nominated for Best Picture, the others might be worth a go, cause this was amazing.
My husband and I were just having a discussion on casting a hypothetical remake of the sober film, The Cowboys - which features one of my favorite villainous performances of all time. Replacing a performance by Glenn Ford is one thing - replacing both Bruce Dern and John Wayne is another.
