Very strange, especially this quote towards the bottom:

They say Obama has told them privately that his time has not yet come, so it would be inappropriate to talk about the healings right now. He says he will wait until the convention to speak publicly about the "special calling" he believes he has to lead the country. They do expect him to start alluding to "the providential nature of what is happening on the campaign trail" in an upcoming address, mostly because word is getting around.

Okay ... this gives me the willies. If the report is true, it will get on major networks soon.

Blessings, Francine

I clicked around LarkNews.com a little bit. It is a satirical site whose sole purpose is to make fun of unsuspecting Evangelicals.

There is a disclaimer at the very bottom of this newspaper... it's all satire!!!

The thought had crossed my mind to set up a similar site for Secular Progressive, MoveOn.org types. Wish I had the time. I thought it would have been funny to write an article with a graphic that that had Bush's face superimposed on Hurricane Katrina.

I'm just relieved that it is not true... it really had me going :p

Wow! Sorry guys! I hadn't been able to read the whole thing yet. I knew it was too weird. I'll try to do better next time. Sheesh!

my rule is if:

1. it's on the Internet, and
2. doesn't seem right ...

I don't believe it ... and I certainly never forward this junk to others.

Thanks, Prof, for your take on this! I will go to my corner now. I've learned a lesson. Will try to read all the way through and be more careful from now on.n

A few months ago (over at CW, I think), we debunked the "Obama is a Muslim" email that is still going around some circles on the Web, and underlies the "Barack Hussein Obama" references that you hear.

I live near Madison and am all too familiar with The Onion. I recognized the same satirical style immediately here:

Lark News's style is very similar to that of The Onion and is widely read by both Christians and non-Christians. Kilpatrick is himself an evangelical who also writes more conventional Christian exposition but believes that satire is necessary for a healthy community.

Hmmm. Looks like I jumped the gun by assuming the guy was just out to get Evangelicals.

It's tricky.

The guy has a sense of humor, so it's pretty hard to believe he's one of us.

Anyone remember The Door / The Wittenberg Door? Similar vibe.

Now that I've looked around it a bit, sans the chip on my shoulder, I'm seeing it in a different light. It's actually quite funny.

On a personal level, Obama seem's like a great guy. I don't get the willies from him like I do the Clintons or Al Gore or John Kerry. But still, I disagree with just about every one of his policy stances.

I also don't think he has the foreign policy experience or any kind of experience to be president. Sometimes I get the feeling he's like a liberal version of George Bush. Did I say that?

In a lot of ways, George Bush is a liberal version of George Bush.

Wasn't the total extent of Bush's foreign policy experience before election a single trip to Israel?

Depends on how people define "liberal", methinks, Prof.
