Starting at around $1800, the new MacBook Air is thin enough to fit into an envelope and has no optical drive (though you can buy an external for $100), an 80 GB hard drive or 64 GB of solid state storage, and a 13" screen. It weighs 3 lbs, has 801.11n wireless, and bluetooth. It's 3/4 of an inch at its thickest point and .16 inches at its thinnest. It also has iSight built-in, and a Core Duo processor clocked at either 1.6 GHZ or 1.8 GHZ. Comes standard with 2 GB of RAM.
But $1800? For $200 more (or $200 less, if you go refurb), you can have a much better equipped MacBook Pro. And for $1200 (around $1000 if you go refurb), you can have a better equipped MacBook.
Is thin and light really worth THAT MUCH of a premium?

Hmmm, what does it say about me that I visit a site daily which captions all pictures of the new Corvette ZR1 as cAr pR0n?

That you probably read car magazines in a similar manner? :p
It used to be the pretty girls were used to sell the cars...

I just saw the MacBook Air a few hours ago on the Apple website.
I have to admit, I thought it was pretty cool... until I realized it didn't come with a optical drive. And it doesn't even have a dedicated graphics card. For a hundred more bucks (using the student discount) I could get a MacBook Pro with the dedicated graphics. But $1800 is still a lot of money, when I could get a Dell Vostro 1400 for about $700 - $800
Unless somebody is willing to hand me a $1,000, I'm probably not going to get a Mac... though I would like to...
You do have to admit, I couldn't believe my eyes, when I saw how thin the MacBook Air was!

...Amazon could've used a cue from them, it seems.

I just saw Lord of War recently, and this story makes me think of that gold-plated AK-47 that President André's son (the son of the Liberian dictator) had. Considering the power and influence a strong and ergonomic piece of silicon wields in modern American society, I can only help but think this is the closest U.S. equivalent to that weapon...
