This will be great. Glad you started it.
Okay, here's what I do...
1. I've found that cutting out just one or two things will eventually take the weight off, gradually, the way it should be. Crash weight loss is never good for you.
2. Gradually cut back on calories. Your stomach won't notice the deprivation as much! LOL!
3. This is my lunch: hard-boiled egg, grape tomatoes, broccoli (with a little bit of Ranch dressing), baby carrots, and at least two fruits, half an apple, half a pear, strawberries, grapes, etc. No bananas. Since my husband has diabetes, we basically go by the Sugarbusters diet for the no-no's.
4. Breakfast is one egg and one piece of Ezekiel bread and hot tea.
5. At our age, our dinners are smaller.
6. Don't eat within three hours of going to bed. You should be feeling those hunger pains. Not good to eat before bed.
7. We rarely have dessert or bread with dinner.
8. Anything that is white is a no-no. Not good for blood-sugar. Well, except a little sugar in my coffee in the afternoon.
I need to exercise but I always forget, thanks to the fibromyalgia. When I got sick, I gained about 30-35 pounds. I have 14 more to go to get back down to my normal weight. I have small bones and am short, so my body doesn't handle extra weight very well.
I'm glad to hear you are using your treadmill. I've got to get back to using mine. Keep at it. If you work at it sensibly, giving yourself time, and not berating yourself for not losing it quick enought, you'll do well. Just encourage yourself.
Okay, the brain is slowing down. I can't think of anything else right now.

Yeah, I know. But the thing is, once you give it up, you don't miss. Oh, we may eat mashed potatotes on occasion or bread with dinner but that's it. And you begin to feel better.

What on earth is Ezekiel bread?
We live on the edge of town and, fortunately, there is a health club down the road, so my wife can swim and I can go on the treadmill, with the mental support of other sufferers around me. Helps a lot.

Okay. Ezekiel bread is sprouted grain bread, the best kind for you. It's a great source of fiber and considered nutritionally complete. There are several flavors. It is recommended by many and mentioned in Dr. Don Colbert's books as well as Jordan Rubin's. It is recommended for several diets because it contains no flour or sugar. It is basically formed after Ezekiel 4:9. It's found in the freezer section. And it is yummy!

I should also note that this bread is what Ezekiel was commanded to subsist on for, how long was it? Three months? Some ridiculously long amount of time, anyway. It has full proteins, whole grains, and all types of other things that are good for you.
I do assume, however, that the bakers of Ezekiel bread do not cook it over cow manure. >_<
Things I do to stay healthy...
-Marginalise my intake of red meat, and keep my general intake of other meats to no more than one serving a day.
-Buying organic fruits, vegetables and grains, and when organic fruits & veggies aren't available, making sure I wash the food thoroughly with a rinse designed to get the waxes, chemical residues, etc. off of the food.
-I walk at least a mile a day in the course of my commute. Despite a lot of things, the amount that New Yorkers have to walk in a given day is certainly on distinct health advantage that we have over the rest of the U.S. We don't get a choice in this matter. :D
-I don't move slowly. Keeps my heart, muscles and joints in good working condition.
-I don't smoke. I rarely drink. Sodas have basically been eliminated from my diet – even diet sodas are disastrously unhealthy.
-I avoid anything with high-fructose corn syrup or trans fat.
-I eat foods that make me feel better after I'm done eating them.
Yeah, those are just little lifestyle choices I've made that help me stay healthy. None of it's too back-breaking, and I can honestly say I feel better for having done all of them.

Good for you Ransom. I dont drink diet things. I think they are worse for me in the long run than the calories. I'm gong to work harder this year than i ever have to loose weight.
Talk soon

Oh, Ransom, you're my kinda guy! LOL! We do all the same except we don't always buy organic and we have to drive everywhere so walking is drastically cut short. And our sugar intake is extremely low.

sigh... honestly I probably don't do very well in this area. I am given such a hard time from the doctors about not gaining any weight that I pretty much eat anything I can that might possibly put meat on my bones. I do try to make sure we have well balanced meals and healthy snacks. I love to be out in the woods hiking and or camping so I guess that would count as exercise.
Wish I could find something that gives tips on gaining weight, but alas all I find has to do with loosing weight. Hey... any of you have any tips on gaining? Would love to hear them. :)

Oh, Katibriah! I have the best tip for you! Grow old! LOL! Sorry...had to do that because I used to be as skinny as a rail. In all the preparations for my wedding, I even lost weight and the week before the ceremony, I weighed 86 pounds! Yuck! The only thing that has put weight on me is time, kids, and now illness. So, as long as you are eating healthy and taking in many calories, good ones, I don't think I'd worry unless there is some other physical problem.

Well, having kids didn't do it for me. I think I've actually lost weight. *grumble grumble* If I could just get the doctors off my back I'd be fine. Everytime they tell me I'm too skinny and start running all kinds of tests (which come out fine) I begin getting disgusted with myself and the lack of being able to gain any weight at all.
But you are right as long as I eat healthy taking in the good calories I'll be fine. Now if I could just convince the docs....

Tune them out...at least on this subject. I gave up trying to gain weight. Nothing ever did it. Like I said, it just took mainly time. And give yourself a break. Don't think about any more. Just enjoy your life. Be thankful for the way you are!

I am a Vegan and I also watch out for certain additives in foods that hide ingredients like MSG such as "Natural Flavors" and "Spices" just to name a couple. I don't knowingly eat anything with chemicals or preservatives in it. I try to avoid GMO foods and try to buy all organic (not always possible). I limit foods with wheat or yeast. I drink a lot of water. I try to get good sleep. I try to use cosmetics that are not toxic. My shampoos, toothpaste, lotions, etc. are all free of chemicals. I have regular devotional times to study the Bible and pray.
After saying all that I will add that I have had a sporting injury that has kept me from my regular exercise routine for about a year now. This and eating too many carbs has caused me to gain quite a few lbs.... Ugh! So the exercise is very important!
My mother has had Fibromyalgia for a long long time (before it was well known) and so I was raised up to be considerate of the foods I eat, the thoughts I have, to do MODERATE exercise, the importance of sleep and being as well informed as possible.
I think my attitude is the most important thing... AND the thing I struggle with the most :p
