Who combines writing with art in some form ?
What other media do you use - photos, manipulations, graphics, painting ......
Over the recent past I've spent more time with photos and manipulations of photos than my graphic work (black ink abstracts).

Keith, In the past, I was into photography but it fell by the wayside with the onslaught of life's other necessities. I would love to start up again. My husband fools around a lot with Photoshop and I've been wanting to get into it. I think that will be one of my goals for the new year. Oooo, black ink. I've always thought people who were into that medium were very brave. I need someway of erasing or redoing whatever I get into! LOL!

A quick side note: I *think* the next version of the software we're running allows members to have a picture gallery on the site. ;)

Hi Keith....I do some painting..mostly arcrylic which I enjoy. I tried watecolour but I like to fiddle so it does not suit me. I have did a few paintings on slates; bottles and things and pasted some of my poems on them. I also like to take photos and combine them with my poems too but my newest love is my video camera which my sons bought me about a year ago. Along with my good friend Jeannine we have produced a lovely DVD of poetry and scenery combined with background music. I find painting very relaxing and I must find time to do a lot more of it.

Hey, Colin! Glad to see you here! I used to dabble a little in oils, pastels, acrylics, charcoal, etc. I need to get back to it also. I think I'll add that to my things to do in the new year, along with the photography.

I used to dabble in oils (sold quite a few) but when my boys started dabbling too I knew it was time to take away the temptation and the possibility of multicolour carpets. I never picked the medium up again. I do occasionally do some encaustic art (coloured beeswax which is 'ironed' onto glossy card - great fun and heavenly smell).

Hi Keith, you like the pen and inks, cool, I love doing them. I also love photography and playing with my pictures in photoshop. Encaustic art sounds like fun, don't know if I should try that with a dog and a cat that might get into it. lol. Hope to see some of your work. God bless you all!

Cool, Jeannine. Do you just do them for pleasure or for selling or both?
Hey, Keith. That does sound like fun. You'll have to tell me how to do that sometime. I'd love to try it.

A gallery would be very cool, to be able to see others work, wow.

I've dabbled in acrylics and watercolors and also prefer acrylic. I did pencil drawings for years - and some cartooning before Pixar took over the animated world. I rarely get the opportunity to spend time in that art form anymore, though my house is well stocked with supplies. I love to paint outdoors.

*Ahem*
I like spraypaint. I like it a lot. Actually, my fondness for spraypaint has nearly gotten me into hot water over the years, but the past is the past.
/twitches nervously
I've done some rudimentary artwork for things like storyboards and character designs. My favourite medium is simple pencil and inks. I've done acrylic and oil paint markers for decorating jackets and, umm, nothing else... I enjoyed some effects India ink and watercolors were having too.
I used to be heavily into film, and consider some of the experiments I fooled around with in trying to capture the right lighting and angles for different shots a sort of rudimentary cinematography.
I used to decorate just about everything I owned with patches, spikes, chains, tags and other things. It is a form of decorative craftwork, I suppose, and it falls under the umbra of visual arts as well, IMO...
Yeah, I guess that's about it. I mostly write now for obvious reasons. :D

No, no, no. Ork ears are nastier, more dishevelled, usually green, black or grey. I don't think anyone would mistake Rebecca's ear for an ork's.

Technically, because the same character in the Tengwar always made a hard "c" or "k" sound (unless it was Quenya, then it made a "kw"/"que" sound) it could be transliterated according to taste. Tolkien obviously preferred using "c", but because "c" can be an "s" or a "k" sound in English, many (myself included) may opt for using a "k" instead.
So
there.

So it doesn't matter how it's spelled, you just spell it how you justify it?
And this close to Tolkien day.

All I'm saying is that there are variant ways of transliterating it, and while "orc" is the standard form, "ork" may also be used in a non-academic setting without necessary impunity.
And anyway, Keith started it.

You say potato and I say potato ... hey wait, those are spelled the same!
Hmmf?
I still don't get it ... reed, read, red? But those are different things that sound the same.
Okay.
So I can spell Keith's name Bob and you have to psychotically know this? So when I type Bob but mean Keith I can get mad when you don't know this because it's the way I spell Bob, er, Keith?

Logical fallacy: erroneous comparison.
Orc and Ork sound the same, mean the same thing, the only difference is in transliteration from Tolkien's Tengwar and Cirth writing systems. This isn't like spelling Keith's name "Bob", or like "read" and "red. This is the difference between transliterating from Arabic "Qur'an" and "Koran", or from Russian "Aleksandr" and "Alexander". Both of the above examples are pronounced the same way, mean the same thing, and the difference in their spelling comes from transliteration from a foreign writing system. And it also happens that all of them are accepted forms of transliteration into the English language.
You lose. Good day sir!
How can it be ME that started this !
You're the one who misspelled Orc. :p

I really enjoy screenprinting, and chiaroscuro prints. Also glassblowing has become a new favorite hobby of mine, it doesn't have anything to do with writing, but it requires an intense amount of multi-tasking and concentration. Once you've mastered the basics, it becomes a dance, it's very relaxing. I'm taking my second semester of it this Spring.

Glass blowing always seemed like something awesome to learn. I saw an exhibition of glass-blown work at La Guardia high school a few years back... it was stunning.

I like Pen and Ink and pencil. I've done a few Pastels, and I like charcoal too. Never tried oil, guess I'm too scared.
RvU, Keith, and HisArt...ya'll are making me laugh! And the funniest thing is, I just watched all three of the trilogy for the first time in the last week, and love them! Tolkein likes orc, but ork is ok too, I should think.
YOu are seriously funny! LOL
