Okay, so you know the drill. You're stranded on an island and all you can have are seven books PLUS your Bible. So what would those seven books be? And are they books you've already read or books you'd need to be stranded on a desert island in order to find the time to read?
My list (for now):
Already read:
Graham Greene - The End of the Affair
Shirley Jackson - The Haunting of Hill House
Stephen King - The Shining
George Orwell - 1984
F. Scott Fitzgerald - The Great Gatzby
To read:
Richard Matheson - I Am Legend
Building A Raft for Dummies 2nd Edition
And you?

Wow! This may take some thought. My writing has taken up a lot of my time and for a number of reasons, haven't been able to read a lot for several years, except for some Christian growth-type books or ones on writing.
There are three right off the top of my head. These three have been my manna from heaven every day for years, my devotionals. I would not be without them...
1. God Calling
2. God At Eventide
3. Streams in the Desert
I love Pilgrim's Progress but have never read it all the way through, just parts of it. I think I'd like to have time to read it. That leaves me with three more...hmmm...actually, I don't think I could be without my Strong's Concordance. May seem weird, but when I read the Bible, I look up the words. Will really open one's eyes to the full meaning of scripture.
That leaves me with two more...those I will have to think about...

Have read, and could read over and over again...
The Silmarillion
Lord of the Rings (technically it's one book)
The Hobbit
The Chronicles of Narnia
Beowulf
Neverwhere
To read:
The Colour of Magic (I've read other Discworld books, but never the first one, but I've read enough to know like everything else Pratchett's done, I could read it over and over again...)

Lord of the rings (of course).
The Sharpe novels of Bernard Cornwell.
Jonathon Livingstone Seagull (Bach).
And Merry's Mike Malone book WHEN IT GETS A PUBLISHER.

That's difficult. Like the ending of H.G. Well's Time Machine.
I'd want some books on survival - building things, growing things, cooking things, homedics. And if I was stranded with my Bible, I'd want some helpmates - commentaries - but I'm hardpressed to say which ones I'd want with me. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. And I'm not sure if I was stranded in a hot climate if reading about pea soupers and gaslamp heroes would make me feel worse or better. Would I want to read about pirates? Dragons? Hobbits? I'm not really sure.
I wouldn't pick Lord of the Flies, that's for sure.
I think if I were stranded on a beach with blue skies, sand between my toes, and clear waterfalls swarmed by deep gloss-green leaves, I'd want to read sunny books - I'd want to read books of hope or mind-moving philosophy vs. books filled with overly dark conflict. So......
I'll go with:
To read:
Don Quixote by Cervantes
Zorba the Greek
The Once and Future King by T.S. Eliot
Already well-loved:
Til We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis
Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesterton
The Collected Poems of Dylan Thomas
I think.

I wouldn't pick Lord of the Flies, that's for sure.
I suppose it goes in line with the same thinking that advises against getting a mother-to-be a copy of Swift's "Modest Proposal".

I have never read a fiction or sci-fi book in my life, so it is a difficult question for me to answer.

The question was what seven books you'd bring besides your Bible... I don't see that it was ever limited to what works of fiction one would bring.

Seven books besides the Bible, hmmm? Okay, I'll take a swing at it.
Already read:
One Door Away from Heaven, by Dean Koontz
The Face, also by Koontz (the guy's books contain so much hope)
The Ultimatum, by T. Davis Bunn (this one launched my writing)
Until the Last Dog Dies, When Skylarks Fall, To Skin a Cat, by, well ... me (even though they've been published, I can't resist the urge to still fiddle with the things)
Yet to read:
The complete works of Charles Dickens ( I can get 'em all in one huge volume, right?) :D

'K I'll play - I'd want the complete works of Tolkien's Middle Earth History (don't know how many volumes, so I'm gonna pretend it come in one large work)
at least one book on wilderness survival (hunting - gathering - cooking / clothes and weapons making info) for the proper environment of the island (or do we have all our necessities?)
I would want some Bible study books - cause on the island I would finally have time to finish that project (don't have titles, or a spoecific number - enough to fill out my 7 if I can't come up w/ anything else)
At least one journal (does a loose-leaf binder count? if not just a bound volume of empty pgs - as thick as possible - do we get pens / pencils? if not then I'll need to whittle down some sticks to char to use to write)
And since I can't think of any thing else right now, a good writer's reference -maybe "How to write and sell your story of living on a deserted island.":D

Just yesterday, I remembered a book I'd want to have on a desert island - Walden. Somehow reading about Thoreau thriving alone would help get me through all that time alone. Hypothetically. ;)
