New writers should keep in mind that most publishers will want you to wait until you've finished a book before sending a proposal, but otherwise, this article has a wealth of information for beginners and the not-so-new as well.

I wish I could view your link as I am interested in any information that could help me in my persuit of becoming a published writer, but it goes nowhere for me... maybe it's just my computer. Thought I would let you know in case it's not my computer.

Hi, Secondsight and welcome to you. There were a few people having troubles with that link. I followed Waterfallbooks instructions and picked it up that way. However, if after trying that it still doesn't work, I still wouldn't worry about your computer, I think it's the link.

Sorry It took so long to respond I'm still trying to figure out this Forum thing as it is new to me.. up untill recently I was using a webTV which, let me say, is horrible machine to try and surf the internet with... but do you know of another way I could view the aforementioned information? I would appreciate any help available... God has infused me with a thirst for writing that will not be quenched untill I can follow my passion.

I must contradict the original post a little bit; whether or not you have finished your book before you send out a proposal isn't very relavant. If anything, you may be in a be in a better position if you do NOT have your book done, as that makes it easier for the publisher to help you shape the book to their liking.

Kristina's point is well made, but mostly applies to nonfiction. From what I have read, most agents and publishers expect fiction submissions to be for already completed manuscripts, while nonfiction works need only be in outline form with a few chapters written. Of course, exceptions are made for previously published authors.
