A young boy, two servants, and a very old man
Climbed up the mountain according to plan
To be obedient to God.
The old man and the boy went away from the rest
He knew he would soon be put to the test.
Would he be obedient to God?
He took fire, some wood, his son, and a knife
But wondered if he could take an innocent life
To be obedient to God?
“Father, where is the lamb?” the young boy inquired.
He answered “The Lord provides what is required.”
“We must be obedient to God.”
He built an alter and arranged the wood,
Then glanced to where his young son stood.
Wondering
Can I be obedient to God?
He placed his son on the altar and raised the knife high.
It was hard as he looked his son in the eye
To be obedient to God.
“Stop!” shouted the angel. The boy was so scared.
“Your faith has been tested. His life has been spared.”
“You have been obedient to God.”
“When you made the decision to give him to me
You experienced what it means to truly be free.”
He was obedient to God.
When God seems to ask more than we feel we should pay
And our human emotions try to get in His way
When we can’t see beyond what our human eyes sense
And no one’s around to take our defense
When it looks like our dreams will soon be dead
When we can’t understand why God said what He said
Just remember the old man who took his young son
And willingly did what he knew God wanted done
Who, without hesitation, raised up the knife
To offer to God a precious young life
Only to learn what God already knew.
The old man found his faith to be true.
Will we be obedient to God?
