Again my submissions are not being posted in Articles and I am desperate to know why?

Do you want help with this site?/. Can I offer my assistance? would you be humble and accept help?

Not meaning to upset you so please don't see what I have to say as that being my purpose.

Hi Saltnlight,

I moved this post from the open forum to support, since it is more of a support issue. ;)

Yes, I would absolutely love some help with validating submissions! Are you offering to help out? If so, please let me know and we'll set it up. :D

I'm not sure how much you know about web sites, but I'm currently switching CW over from a static to a dynamic site. This means that instead of a plain html file (web page) which needs to be updated manually, all the pages will be generated directly from the database. This will keep voting, hits, etc. all updated instantly. It will also allow category editors (such as you would be), and give writers much more control over their submissions.

We have over 600 submissions currently in the queue. Instead of spending time to validate, format and create the static pages, I've chosen to complete the transition to dynamic first. This means a few days delay in validating the submissions, but a huge savings in time and efficiency once the process is complete.

Hopefully this makes sense, and I didn't make it more confusing. :p Also, please let me know if you are serious about helping out, and I'll speak to you about it further.

Thanks! :)
Rebecca

Rebecca:
Serious as a heart attack. I see that there is no way one person can do all that is needed for this site to run well so that is why I am offering. I do not know a whole lot about web sites but I am more than willing to learn. I have been a moderator once for a forum, and I have some knowledge of editing or/and correcting spelling etc.

Please let me try and give you some help, if you find me more of a hindrance than help tell me so. I can take it.

Hi Saltnlight,

I am extremely grateful for your offer! :D I need to set up permissions and customize a few portions of the site to allow you (and any other volunteers) access. I'll work on that today and as time avails itself over the weekend. In the meantime, please let me know what category you'd like to work on. Articles, poetry and short fiction categories are available.

Again, thanks again for your offer, and I look forward to hearing from you. :)

Hi Firefeet,

Excellent! Thank you very much! :D Which category do you want to work on? Articles, short fiction, and poetry are available. We can have duplicate editors for categories, so no worries there.

Again, thanks so much to both of you for your willingness to jump in and help. God bless you both. :)

I just wanted to drop a quick note to say I haven't forgotten about this. I've run into a minor glitch I can't seem to solve, and am waiting on tech support for the program I'm using. I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Thank you both for your patience. :)

Hi Ladies,

Still working on this! :( As posted in the Open Forum (http://4Believers.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1558), I'm taking the site down this weekend and updating all the software to resolve this and other issues that are cropping up due to software version imcompatability. Please pray that all goes smoothly. ;)

Thanks again,
Rebecca

Hi Saltnlight,

Thanks so much! I'm glad you like it! :D I still have some refinement to do, but all is up and functioning well enough for now.

I still haven't heard back from support on the E-zine incompatability issue, so today I've been working on an alternate method to allow editors. It's going to take a bit of elbow grease, but I think it should work out just fine! I'll let you both know as soon as I'm ready to test it. Right now getting you both set up is my top CW priority, so expect to hear from me soon. ;)

Thanks again!

Hi Saltnlight,

Things are going, just more slowly than I'd hoped. My computer was seriously damaged in a thunderstorm last week, and I've been having to alternate between an old backup computer and what's left of my this one. It was to the point that I could check email on one, but had to use the other to browse the Internet. As you can imagine, that's terribly inefficient! :( The good news is, someone is supposed to stop by tonight and fix my computer. Please, please keep me and this situation in your prayers, that all is back to normal after tonight!

Somehow I get the feeling I'm being tested. lol! :p

What time I've been able to work has been dedicated to finding a solution to the articles. The old program is completely busted with the recent upgrades. I contacted the company who made the program, and they said they know about it, and there are several other people having the same problem, but fixing it isn't the priority for them right now. Rather than wait for them to live up to their responsibilities (which they couldn't even give me a rough time frame for), I've been working on integrating the magazine into the forums themselves. I figured this was the best solution, since the new forums offer search-engine friendly URLs, content syndication, and the user database are already in place. When I'm done, it should be a seprate section, and won't look like forums, but more like the old Ezine. There will still be commenting allowed, plus more accurate viewing statistics. When I appoint you two as moderators, it will be an automatic solution to our submission validation issues.

The main frustration I run into with this solution is that it will be extremely difficult to import our old articles without corrupting the database. I may be forced to archive the older stuff, then link to it. It will still be searchable and available to read, but will be a seprate section from the newer stuff.

Anyway, that's where it all stands. I'm continuing to work on things, but could definitely use your prayers that my computer situation is straightened out tonight and the rest goes smoothly! lol! ;)

Talk soon,
Rebecca

Sorry about the computer smash and I will lift you in prayer. Don't even bother to answer this because I know you must be at wits end by now. Whenever things get into some semblance of normal then write me to let me know what you want me to do.

In the mean time there is much going on all over the place. God is in control and the enemy is mad. You are always going to bew tested when you work for Him.
