I know I had a daddy once.
Why did he go away?

My mommy said it’s not our fault,
it had to be that way.

When all the other kids at school
talk about their dads...

I know I should be glad for them;
instead I just get mad.

I’m grateful for my mommy though,
who helps me understand

that everything will be alright,
then softly holds my hand.

My mommy said she knows it’s hard,
but if I try to pray,

God will hear me when I hurt
and never go away.

“I may not be your daddy,
but I ‘m your Father from above;

just talk to me when you are sad
and know that you are loved.”

At times it can be hard for me
to see the other dads...

playing with their kids outside;
it makes me kind of sad.

Today’s the father- daughter dance (For girls)
I know I won’t be there,

Today’s my big baseball game. (For boys)
I know he won’t be there,

but that’s ok, I’m not alone.
I have someone who cares.

So when I wish my dad was here
but know it can’t come true,

I’ll think of what my mommy said;
I know just what to do...

My mommy said she knows it’s hard,
but if I try to pray,

God will hear me when I hurt
and never run away.

“I may not be your daddy,
but I ‘m your Father from above;

just talk to me when you are sad
and know that you are loved.”
