Mark was walking down main street of Mt. Airy with his friend John one beautiful morning. The sun high in the sky spreading it’s light and warmth all over the town. The streets some what busy . And the sent of spring flowers in the air. John a seven foot tall man with red hair and hazel eyes is talking to Mark a five foot seven guy , with black hair and green eyes. In a very serious voice.
“Look man I know it dose seem right but just listen to me for a minuet.” “I am telling you that the bible the saints is all a lie, it is all a bunch of crape. It was nothing more that a big joke some guy pulled on people over a thousand years ago that just got out of hand. There is no such thing as God.” Mark snaps around at his friend with the look of both anger and sadness on his face. But is still speechless at what he is hearing right at this moment.
He has been hanging around some shady characters recently even that new girlfriend of his, something doesn’t seem right about her. “What man what is it.” “Why are you looking at me like that for.” John cries at mark. Mark just turns back around and keeps on walking down the street heading for the book shop. John runs to catch up with his friend and get along beside him. “ What is it man. What is wrong with you.” Mark just keeps on walking.
John then says. “look man I know all those things seemed real when we read it but tell me have we ever really ever witnessed anything that was actually supernatural in nature?” “No.” “It was all just all just an illusion of our own minds. Everything that either of us have ever seen or though that was have seen can be explained in a scientific way. The things that we might have seen we believed to be supernatural because we wanted to believe it was true, there was no miracle. Just coincidence.” Mark now being physically drained as well as emotionally at what he is just now hearing from his childhood friend stops and sits down on a old stone wall that is standing low enof for him to sit on. He runs his hand on the top of the ruff hewn stone that makes up the old wall. To look at it you would think that it is about to fall down right before you’re eyes. But sitting on it Mark is always surprised to find that it is as strong as ever the walls cement settings as strong as ever. There where cracks in the cement settings in between the stone blocks and it leaked badly when it rained water would pore out of the cracks during a bad storm. Mark found himself wondering how much longer the wall could hold up agents the ravages of weather and time. The wall is the only thing keeping the soil from the yard behind him from spilling out onto the street that it cut partly out of the hill that they now where on.
“You know John?” Mark speaks up after a long uncomfortable silence. “Our faith is like this wall here.” John just snorts. “What faith? And what are you talking about?” “Faith is like a wall, it hold us in, keeps us safe from the lies of the rest of the world and that of the enemy. But like this wall here it is only as strong as it’s foundation and with out constant maitance agents the environment that it must constantly stand agents it will erode away, the settings will become loose, weak and eventually it will collapse under it’s own weight.”
Finely getting tired of just standing there in front of him decides to sit down on the wall next to him wile looking around at what looks like used to be a more up style part of town judging from the state of disrepair a lot of the houses and the surrounding walls, that had been a long time again. Oddly enof the current residence or at least some of the houses cared enof to keep there yards in a good state if not the outside of the houses them selves or the structural integrity of the buildings some of them looked like they could collapse with only a strong wind. One good thing though was the extremely old oak trees that provided a decent amount of shade during the noon hours.
As John sits down next to his friend a refreshing wind starts blowing. “What is that supposed to mean?”
“Just this.” The stone is our faith the cement is the foundation and the setting which holds it all together that is Christ he is the foundation for our faith. If we keep our eyes toward him our foundation remains strong but if we look away for to long the ravages of the world around us start to chip away at the foundation of our walls.” Mark bends over to pick up a piece of cement that is lying at his feet and picks it up. “If we keep up this for too long.” Mark snaps the old cement piece in half. “Do you see what I mean now?”
“Sure I would if there where anything to it.” John replies. A few minuets of silence pass and the both stand back up and begin there journey yet again. “Hey you remember that time we got so board that we decided to drive all the way down to the drug store in that car with no breaks?” “Ya” John replies laphing . “I remember that we got to the top of this very hill and found that there was a hole line of cars waiting at the bottom for the light to change. We nearly flipped the car trying to make that left turn so we could avoid hitting the other cars head on.” “Yaaa” Mark says “We sure where blessed that time” “Not blessed Mark just lucky.” John stops for the light at the intersection. “What makes you think that John.” The light turns green and the two continue down the road. “It just was .” Was all that John would say.
“So. How’s you’re new girlfriend?” What’s her name again?” asks Mark. “Star her name is Star.” Is she apart of that new grope you’ve been hanging around lately also? Mark presses on to his friend knowing that he needs to break his friend before it is to late. “Ya so what of it? What if she is?” John exclaims as they start down a street containing one of the towns many historical districts. In truth it really wasn’t anything more than a few old houses that had been restored one of them being converted into a visitors center. But the buildings where well kept and the lawns kept in good repair so it was pleasant to walk down anyways. “Well if she is then I would say that she has become a bad influence on you, you are letting her turn you away from what you know is the truth, and that maybe you either need to get a way from all of them or start witnessing to them.” John turns on his friend over shadowing him and a look of anger growing on his face. “What makes you say that. You need to need to talk to them at least once maybe you will see that there’s is the real truth, and that all that crap the feed us all those years, is just that crap.”
Mark trying to stay calm now just stares at his friend disbelief at what he is seeing creeping into his heart. Was this the same person that he met in the school all of those years? Was this the same person who was so enthused to learn almost as soon as it was presented to him? It was becoming quite apparent to Mark that his friend had changed a lot in only the course of a few days. The fact frightened him. “I have trued if you don’t remember, it was you that would never let me finish a sentence.” “And you know why don’t you?” “Ya I do because you knew that I would have been able to tare there hole world asunder. Because you know for a fact the there world is nothing more than an illusion.” “A comfort zone in which they could hide from the real world and not have to face the truth that they are not perfect, so that they can look down on everybody els and point out there flaws with out exposing there own. So that they can make themselves fell better about what they do.” “These are the same type of people that used to torment us both in school because we where so different from everybody ells, And you have fallen into that same delusional world. You are becoming the vary thing that you used to hate so much.” The hole time John’s face is growing darker with each word.
Now you just listen here. John replies anger filling his voice. “Star is not like that…..” And as if summand a voice comes out from behind them. “Hey you guys.” The two turn around to see a woman walking there way she is around four foot-nine with long dirty blond hair and exuberant blue eyes. Star rushes up to John and gives him a long kiss. After words she realizes that the both of them are not looking vary happy. “Hey now what wrong.” She asks wile looking back and fourth between the two. “Nothing” they both reply at the same time.
“So then?” Star asks as they start walking down the street entering the downtown area. “What has been going on.” “Nothing special Star really.” John replies the heat removed from his voice now. “Ok but you still have that look on you’re face that you get every time you have been talking about religion.” Just then Mark speaks up “Star what exactly do you believe about God?” Star stare up at him. “Who are you exactly? “I’m Mark why?” “O so you are John’s old friend the Christian?” “Yes I am, thank you.” Mark replies with a smirk on his face. Star just frowns and walks on. “Well if you must know. I say it is all just a big lie made up by people a long time ago just so they could get there jollies at watching people squirm for a god that never even existed.” “And what if I said you where wrong you and you’re friends.” Mark asks “I would laph in you’re face for being so ignorant as to believe such an obviously transparent story.” O really….” Mark starts out looking at John with an expression that says I told you so. “Ya.” Star replies now getting annoyed “Nothing like all that junk ever rely happened and never will. And there is nothing you or anybody ells could do or say to prove other wise.” Mark opens his mouth to reply to that when John finely steps in. “Mark that is enof cant you see that no one here is going to listen to you’re rubbish, just give it up because it is not going to work.”
Mark now upset at the interruption replies. “And isn’t this just exactly what I was telling you before? Every time I try to talk to one of you’re new friends you are always there to try to stop me before I can make my point.” “Well Mark if you wouldn’t all ways be spouting you’re junk all over the place I wouldn’t have to.” “Well John is you would just slow down a little and consider what you are saying then that wouldn’t happen now would it?” The two start walking again not paying attention to where they are going only lost in there own thoughts.
As the trio walks down the street. Star looks around to find the old car lot that was almost a mile on the other side of down town. “Umm guys where exactly where were we supposed to be going” Star chimes in. “The book store.. Why? John says. “Then why are we on the other side of town now. For the first time Mark actually looks around at where they are at, to find that they have over shot Main street by more than a mile. To there left was the old car lot with it’s verity of new and used cars for sale. To there right on the other side of the road a forested area. “Damn” Mark thinks to himself. “I was so biussie auguring with John that I missed the book store all together. He looks at his watch “Well we still have some time before it closes if we hurry we can get there with at least a few minuets to spare.
Just as Mark turns to go back to where he came from the three here a noise coming from a near by forest . The three turn to where the sound is coming from and just then a huge monster appears, jagged spikes coming out of him on the arms and legs, droll coming out of it’s mouth. “John” the thing says “you are finely mine, I have been waiting for the day when you would forsake God and now you are mine.” John stands there frozen in place with fright. “Who… what are you? How do you know my name?” The monster laps it is a blood curdling sound and all three of them are forced to cover there ears from the pain the noise produces resembles a tractor trailer trying to make a fast stop. “ I have always known how you are John I have been after you since you where born.” “But why? Why do you want me?” John asks not believing that is actually seeing a demon and even more perplexed at why he is holding a conversation with it. “My master has ordered it that is all you need to know. I must thank you Star you have been of an invaluable help to me. With out you and you’re friends I would never been able to influence John to turn away from God. I have been waiting for this for a long time. Enof of this it’s time to die.” The monster attacks with frightening quickness.
As the monster comes at John Mark runs and is able to push the other two out of the way just as the things arm comes down on them knocking Mark to the ground blood poring out of the gashes made by the things spikes. Star runs back the way she had come screaming. John just stares at the demon in astoshment and paralyzed in fear. Mark getting back on his feet sees him standing there as the demon attacks again Mark jumps in between them this time catching the monsters wrists on the down swing the two wrestle for a few minuets, wile he is wrestling with the beast Mark looks over to see his friend still standing there frozen in fear “Run” He screams “Run and go protect Star.” Just then Mark brakes away for just long enof to give John a push to get him started running . Then turns around just in time to receive a blow to his face knocking him to the ground once again. The monster leaps on top of Mark pinning him to the ground, drool from his mouth hitting the ground and eating away small holes in the pavement like acid. “I have had enof of you’re interference so I think that I will take you out first there is plenty of time to go after the others They no longer have the protection then need to hide from me.“ Mark struggling under the crushing weight of the beats replies “You will never have them by now they have learned there lesson and I think you will find it a lot harder next time around.“ the demon just laughs “We shall see about that.“ The demon shifts his weight in order to give another blow which gives Mark just enof room to get into his back pocket and pulls out the bible that he keeps in his pocket at all times.
That is the last time that John would ever see his friend alive again.
John catches up with Star and pulls her to the side to hide in and embankment on the side of the road. “I…..Know what you were talking about now.” Star says in-between sobs. “I know now that I was wrong to not believe in God and Jesus. Because if a horribly evil thing like that excisets then God must exciset because he is the only one that could keep us safe from something like that.” John stays silent thinking “If I hadn’t forsaken God like that this would have never happened. If only I had stuck to what I knew was right , if I hadn’t let myself be tempted by the world This never would have happened. It’s all my fault.”
From ware they where down the street you could still here the sounds of fighting and screaming. The last thing John ever heard from his friend where “In the name of the father, the son and the holy ghost. In the name of Jesus Christ and God almighty I command you demon be gone.” More screams fallow and then more silence. From that time on neither John nor Star would ever forsake God ever again.
“Look man I know it dose seem right but just listen to me for a minuet.” “I am telling you that the bible the saints is all a lie, it is all a bunch of crape.
