Ok, picture this…It’s your birthday. All your friends and family are coming. Your sooo excited. They arrive bearing gifts a plenty. Someone hired a clown to perform…how kewl is that?! The clown has just finished his act and people are applauding. Then your sister gets up…. “Everyone, may I have your attention. It is time for presents!” You get a warm, fuzzy feeling as you realize that your about to receive gifts from the ones you love. It just doesn’t get better then this. The clown grabs a present from the abundance of package on the table. Your tummy turns with butterflies. He hands the package to your….your…..sister. You immediately think she will get up and hand it to you. She opens it. “Wow, its what I’ve always wanted!” She says to the clown, giving him a great big hug. “Thank you so much, Clown.” With his deep voice he proudly welcomes her and goes forth to pick another gift. He then hands it to your best friend! ‘Ok, ok‘, your thinking…. ‘This is a big prank and I will just go along with it.’ However, after five more presents, you have had it! “That’s enough guyz! What is going on here? Huh? Either you guyz have all gone completely bonkers, or this is the longest prank I have ever seen….what gives?” Everyone stops. Nobody makes a move or a sound. Then finally, in unison they all turn around, look at you with evil grins, put their fingers to their mouths and “Shhhhhhhh,” you! You can’t believe it! It’s like the Twig light Zone. You won’t stand for it. “Hey, don’t you guys love me….as I love you? Why are you treating me this way? This is my birthday. My celebration!” Everyone quiets down again, but this time, the clown goes outside and returns with a big glass box. He sets it down in the middle of the room and asks your friends and family, “Whatya say, shall we put her in the box?” You can’t believe your ears….put her in the box? And then, all at once, they start laughing and shouting, “Put her in the box! Put her in the box!” In spite of the much protest on your part, the clown puts you in the box and locks it. There you are, in the box, and you can’t hear anything! All you are is an observer. You watch as they open your presents, play your games, and eat your cake.
What if I were to tell you that this horrible birthday experience has actually happened to someone? Well, it has. And not only has it, but it has happened on several of this persons birthdays. Who might you ask has suffered such an inhumane thing? Ok….are you ready for this? The person it has happened to is none other than……………………………….............
Jesus Christ. Yes. You heard it here first folks. Ya see, every year on Jesus’ birthday which happens to fall on CHRISTmas, this very thing happens to Him. Ok, well, there is no actual clown, or real glass box, but there are very huge similarities to my story above and Jesus’. Jesus has a birthday and all over the globe, people celebrate it. But they celebrate it their way. Rather than giving praise to Jesus for all He has given them, people give praise to the almighty Santa Clause. And people give gifts to each other, yet deny Jesus their hearts. They hear Jesus speaking to them of His love, His redemption, and oh how He longs to be their friend, but people shut Him up in a soundproof box. Why? Because they don’t want Jesus. They want to revel in their own self indulgence. They want to leave the HOLY out of holiDAY. Jesus did so much more for us then any material gift could ever do. As a matter of fact there is simply no comparison to the great love He showed us 2,000 years ago. Jesus was sitten pretty on His throne in heaven. He saw man’s desperate need for a savior. Man wasn’t cutting it on his own and have been making a mess of things since the beginning. So Jesus came down from His lofty position in heaven. He became a baby born in a manger. Why? To show us how to live. And ultimately to die so that we can live….forever.

Hi snowboardbunny.....I posted a poem this morning and then decided to read this post of yours and found your thoughts were very similiar to the ones I have in my poem. Hope you have a blessed Christmas.

Snow, I don't know what happened to the other comments but one thing I forgot to add...when you make a post, be sure you divide into paragraphs and put a space in between them. It is so much easier to read.

Hi Snowbunny,

This is actually a non-fiction piece. What you've done is write an article and used as the body, an illustration/parable to get your point across. Actually it sounds like a sermon . . .

Hey maybe you missed your calling?

Anyway, it needs to be formatted properly. If you need help with that, you can always refer to an English writing text or some formatting book. We might have some resources in the "Resource Directory" (which is down at this present moment or I'd include a link here) for formatting and grammar.

It's a cute idea and could be developed further.
