‘SON REMEMBER’ LUKE 16:19-31

Here are two men, both Sons of Abraham, both lived on the same earth, in the same town and met on the same street.

One was comforted; the other tormented

One had everything; the other had nothing

One lay on a couch and on fine bedding; the other lay on a dirty, dusty cobbled street

One was well fed; the other starved and lived on throwaway dinners and scraps

One was clothed in the finest of clothes; the other was clothed in beggar’s rags

One had a roof over his head; the other a borrowed table

One had many friends; the other had only dogs, putrefying sores and pain for company

One made merry; the other made a living seeking alms.

One revelled; while the other grovelled and starved

Both died and both ended up with eternal life.

Death is a great leveller for in death they both lived again, both received eternal life, both breathed, both of them talked, both saw each other and both of them had feelings.

The great difference was Lazarus who once had nothing had found everything he ever craved for in Father Abrahams bosom.

The rich man however had not even a drop of water to cool his tongue; he would have willingly given up everything he had ever owned for a single drop of cool water.

The man who had everything suddenly had nothing, the scriptures warned him, and ‘for what shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his soul?’… No fine clothes, no mansion, no friends, no food and no water.

He had however one thing I want to draw your attention to…

‘He still retained his memories’ Father Abraham said in verse 25 of Luke 16, ‘SON REMEMBER’

Remember; ‘You had everything in life, Lazarus had nothing’
Remember; ‘You fed on the finest of foods Lazarus fed on your scraps’
Remember; ‘You had the finest of clothes, Lazarus was clothed in rags’

‘Son Remember; Remember;

Remember the prophets who spoke to you about salvation and the consequences of living like a fool
Remember how you had everything while others starved and had nothing

Remember how you played while others died in want

Remember the wine you drank while others died of thirst

Remember the food you threw away while others starved to death around you?

What of you friend? What would you be called to remember if heaven rejected you and hell opened its mouth to receive you?

Remember how your mother prayed for you and how you mocked her…

Remember the tracts that some loving Christian handed you and you tore up in their face…

Remember the way you abused someone who trusted you…

Remember the abortion you had because your baby was inconvenient?

Remember how someone hurt you and how you refused to forgive them…

Remember the poor you found disgusting and turned away from…

Remember the orphans and the widows or the refugees you turned away from your front door as they sought for food and shelter

Remember how you stared at television porn or read magazines that filled you with lust instead of love?

Remember the wine or the booze you drank while God in his mercy offered you living water…

Remember how you thought that making money and having fine cars and houses was all you needed…

Remember how you gossiped and stripped others of their dignity in whispering corner…

Remember how you scoffed and laughed at the corner preacher and the Christians you called hypocrites…

Remember how your pastor or the preacher warned you to flee from the wrath to come...

Remember how this old preacher spoke softly to you pleading with you to turn to Christ before you turned and slipped into a hellish eternity.

Remember how many times you rejected Christ…

You may not fear my words friend but as Jesus said,

‘Fear him who, after he hath killed, hath power to cast into hell...’ Luke 12:5

Hell is not a nice place; it was never created for mankind it was made for the fallen angles who had rebelled against God… If we rebel and refuse Christ as they did can we expect any different an end?

It’s not a nice place… its hell…

‘They will be in the lake of fire, with multitudes suffering terribly and needlessly. In frantic desperation they will cry out, "HOW LONG? HOW LONG WILL THIS GO ON.? HOW LONG?" And an answer will come back to them in the darkness: "Forever. And forever...’

There is indeed a hell to shun and a heaven to gain… what about you? Where will you spend eternity? Jesus said; come unto me all you that are burdened and heavy laden… Come, now is the day of salvation behold now is the accepted time… Come to Christ or live with memories that will haunt you for eternity

How will you escape if you neglect so great a salvation? Heaven and hell both come free of any charge, where do you choose to live for eternity?

Remember, Heaven or hell is your choice?

Christ and freedom or a forever tormenting hellish eternity with nothing but regrets and destructive memories that will haunt you forever?

Christian, don’t breathe a sigh of relief just yet, every idle word, all the work done in your body will be judged… you too will remember every sin that you have tried to hide.

As the scriptures declare; ‘Let him that thinks he stands, think again’

Today is the day God has chosen for us all to get right with him, so in the words of Christ himself; ‘repent; except you repent, you will all likewise perish’ Luke 13:3
