I've been reading through the posts on POD. I ran across Jeff's comments about Lightening Source and have done some comparisons. For me, it looks like it will be the best long term solution to publish my second book. I am grateful to my first publisher, Pleasant Word, connecting me with a good editor and teaching me how to write, but the costs to sell a couple hundred books is not very good stewardship.
Since I have a business name and the technical ability to produce the required PDF files, I believe I’ll be using Lightening Source in the future.
Thanks Jeff! Thank you Jesus!

I used Lightning Source for my second book, which is being released tomorrow, Quilting Patches of Life. The pricing is great. The cover looks fantastic. The turnaround time is good.
I was thrilled to see my book available on amazon, barnes & noble, and borders websites. Something I was unable to attain with my first book, Gates & Fences: Straight Talk in a Crooked World. However, it has done well, and in its third printing. I am planning to do a run with Lightning Source just to make it availalbe on a wider market.
The only downside I've discovered with Lightning Source thusfar is the quality of my interior graphics. Also, I would have been willing to pay more for a thicker cover, but it wasn't available.

These are good issues. POD and other self-publishing has really come of age and is no longer just for the "vanity press" type people. Another good source is WinePress publishing. They are here in Washington State and produce really top quality work. If someone is considering self-publishing and hasn't decided on a publisher yet, they might want to check them out. I have been to several workshops where their owner has participated and I have seen the material first-hand. Every once in a while, books which start out as self-published with Winepress eventually get picked up by a major publisher.
Just some thoughts from newer member dancingpsalmist.
