If your book was made into a good movie (oooh what a dream) and you were given the task of choosing the cast for your characters, who would be the lucky actors and actresses chosen?

Just list some characters of your WIP (work in progress or novel) and the actors and actresses you would love to play them besides them. A small description of the character wouldn't hurt either. I would do mine, but it is late here. There's always tomorrow.....

(Excuse me if this thread has been done before)

The title character Cooper Flynn for 'The Adventures of the Sky Pirate' is loosely based on the rakish charm and wit of Big Brother's Will Kirby:

Hmmm....I really think I'd use unknowns for the roles of Maria and the girls...But if they had to be known actors I'd say I'll have to really think about that one.

Oh gosh, it's hard to say this without putting proverbial tags on my characters. But here goes -

For my main, Brenin, who is a young emperor - Gerard Butler
Corenna, his wife, a native princess - Q'orianka Kilcher
Aidan, a dangerously eccentric king who stands in Brenin's way - Ewan McGregor

Interesting!

Mmmm... Good question!

I've always had a hard time getting an exact spec on who would play what character. So, here's my go...

Bobby Denezheg - Confused, macho, lover of elves - I can think of no actors who would really properly fit him. The closest I can come up with is a young Bruce Willis, or perhaps younger, buffer Peter Cushing.

Suzy Denezheg - Confused, humble, lover of elves and other things - Some Vietnamese actor. Maybe Jet Li could pull him off...

Lord Chaos - Hiroyuki Sanada

Lord Aggression - Dolph Lundgren with dyed black hair.

Jillian O'Kenna - Elven psychologist - Bryce Dallas Howard (without (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/hh/0397171/HH/0397171/iid_1282879.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Howard,%20Bryce%20Dallas) the horrible dye job (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0413300/Ss/0413300/PK27.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Howard,%20Bryce%20Dallas).)

Norio Latham - Obscene, arrogant special forces commander - Any number of pretty boys who look like they came cloned from some Abercombie and Fitch advertisement.

To be quite honest, it's somewhat difficult to cast a lot of my characters. There are very few popular actors who fit the look or mold of what I envision when I write my stories. A few times, I must confess, a general idea pops in my head based on different actors and actresses, but for the most part it's a pretty difficult job.

I do this all the time!

Wayne Dayton, identity theft victim -- Jason Gray-Stanford
Leila McGuigan, FBI -- Maggie Gyllenhaal, as a redhead
Stuart Price, former DC cop, villain -- John Cusack
Chuck Vadas, former DC cop, good guy -- Mitch Pileggi (with a hairpiece)
Monica Travis, McGuigan's FBI supervisor -- Marcia Gay Harden

I'm calling schnizz on that one...

I've had it up to my ears with blondes, blacks, browns etc. being cast in the parts of redheads! Is this character someone with brown hair who dyes it red, or is she supposed to be a real redhead? TELL ME!

There are many talented, underappreciated red-haired actresses who need our patronage and support! Don't cut them short! (No pun intended...)

Ditto! I was having a crazy hard time trying to think about casting mine - and I'm still not satisfied. Those I really like couldn't possibly LOOK like my characters, even though they might believably portay them. Maybe.

I always hate watching a movie of a book where the characters intrude upon my vision of how the characters were supposed to look.

Natural redhead. And when I finished it in '99, it was Gillian Anderson, so I get credit for that, right?

That's a part of the joke... I'm glad you got it. ;)

On that note, I have one more that you guys might be familiar with....

Lohn Basdansir-Nammadan, AKA the Soulsucker of Aneuma - Cillian Murphy

I was picturing Cillian Murphy dressed in the manner of a late 19th century robber baron while I was writing this.

I love Gillian, and I know they can do wonders, but she is 10-12 years older than the character.

I would screen-test Alyson Hannigan, though. And Lauren Ambrose.

Lohn Basdansir-Nammadan, AKA the Soulsucker of Aneuma - Cillian Murphy

Ahh... perfect choice, He definitely has the right balance of creepiness and charm.

Hmm... this is a bit difficult. I often will find inspiration in a movie character/actor, but by the time I'm finished fleshing out the character he bears little to no resemblance. For instance, Marcus Annan of my Crusade novel started out as Russell Crowe and ended up more like Sean Bean.

For my WIP...

Chris Redston, the modern-day war journalist forced into the reluctanct positon of warrior/savior in a medieval/fantasy world: James Franco (though about ten years older and not quite so good looking;))

Allara Katadin, princess of Lael and Summoner of the Gifted: Audrey Hepburn (even though I have a bit of a hard time seeing her with sword in hand:rolleyes:)

Lauden Mactalde, warlord and bad guy: a young Sean Connery

That was hard... none of them are a perfect fit, but I think I'd be happy to see these actors playing the roles. Good thread!!thumbsup!

I always saw Ralf Moeller (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005241/) as making a decent Annan.

Is he perhaps not Scottish enough? :p

Hmm... I see that he played "Hagen" in Gladiator, and I'm trying to remember who that was. The German gladiator? Maximus's other notable gladiator friend, along with Juba?

I'll keep the suggestion in mind when we start casting for Behold! :D ;)

I've often played with this idea. Like Pajarita said, I would like to use unknown or little known actors to play the roles of my heroes, but that hasn't stopped me from identifying good known actors for those parts.

For Fondlo Urzer, the boyish man in his 40s who is the Saternis' primary negotiator, I might cast a younger Nicholas Cage.

Age the actress who played Nan on Little Women by a few years, and she would make a great Xida Urzer--a small blonde who appears to be a child, but is really a fully mature electronics genius.

An actor named John Winston (I think that's his name), who played Transporter Chief Kyle on Star Trek (minus a few years) was my inspiration for Nytom Urzer; give him dark hair for his near lookalike brother Midik.

Charles Napier would look commanding enough for my Capt. Paul Riegel. I was impressed with him as the warden in Ernest Goes to Jail, and I've seen him later in less sadistic roles.

The beautiful, feisty, and logical April Riegel could be played by a younger Stephanie Zimbalist of Remington Steele.

Lisa Bonet on The Cosby Show has always impressed me as a Trizta Izeni type character--an ordinary girl who loves adventure.

Starting in the last half of Book 2, I have a deep green Vloran man named Emo Tirzaa, a former military man, and I've always envisioned a hefty, imposing, but amiable black man to play him.

I could go on and on, but I've probably said enough. But as I said, I would probably favor unknowns in these same roles; this just gives you a picture of what I have envisioned them to look like.

These folks come the closest to looking like the primary characters in the first novel in my series of historicals:

Ailean MacLachlan, MC, Scottish Highlander - Matthew McConaughey
Muirne MacGregor, Ailean's first wife - Lily Cole (I don't know if she can act, since she's a model, not an actress, but in some photographs, she IS Muirne)
Latharn Campbell, villain - Tom Cruise
Aodh MacLachlan, Ailean's father - Ted Levine (Captain Stottlemeyer on Monk)
Kutahyah, Ailean's Cherokee wife - Misty Upham

Hmm... I've pondered this question since I began writing with these characters 10 years ago...

Right now, here's who I'd pick...

For my MC, Amanda Jean O'Flannigan, I'd choose either Emily Deschanel or Michaela Conlin, both of which play roles on the TV Show Bones on FOX. I'd lean more to Michaela than Emily because Amanda's 3/8 Cherokee and Michaela has more of an Indian look, but Emily has paler skin than Michaela, and Amanda's 1/2 Irish and gets her skintone from the Irish in her. :)

For her love interest, Rick Pierce, I don't know. He's based a lot on my husband, though not necessarily in looks, so it'd be hard for me to decide. Maybe Owen Wilson. If I could pick older actors, it'd probably be Jimmy Stewart in his prime (I know-- J.S. & O.W. are HUGELY different!!) Rick's very intelligent, so that's why I like J.S., but he's got a playful side, which is where the O.W. idea comes into play.

For A.J.'s friend, Candace McPhee, I think it'd have to be an unknown. I have a friend who I modeled a lot of her looks off of, not necessarily personality. Candace is a reporter who's pretty dogged. Caroline Rhea has the right build, but she's too old, so I'm not sure.

For A.J.'s other friend, Heidi Edwards, probably Halle Berry (of course, she's one of the few African-American actresses I can think of off hand, so that plays a role.)

Bad guys Vaughn Littlejohn & Derek Mathieu, hmm... Probably Ray Liotta & John Travolta. I can't remember which one is the worse of the two right off hand, but whichever one that is, I'd want Ray Liotta to play him. :)

And, for A.J.'s right hand man, Tyrone, probably Will Smith. :)

I have to admit, it is hard to choose an actor for your characters' role. Most likely because they are your creations and you wouldn't want to loose all the....creativeness you put into them. Anywho....

The calm, collective Prophet Damon of Kimas would be played by Morgan Freeman. After seeing Bruce Almighty and other movies, it is easy for me to say that this man would be a good choice for this religious character.

Kayna, the Necromancer of Truth.....hmm.....For now I want to say Uma Thurman. The evil look that sometimes comes in her eyes would be a great touch for Lady Kayna, though she is not all evil.

Alexander Siddig, hopefully a lesser known actor, would fullfil the role of Prince
Azekel, the lustful adulterer son of King Aziz.

Lucky for me, I've had one cast of characters for the last 10 years despite never publishing, so that's not an issue! Until recently, that is. Last year, I started with a new cast for a new book, but until I get my current book polished and out, I'm not going to respond for that cast! (All I know is that one of the characters would best be played by the girl that plays Abby on CBS's 'NCIS'.) :)

Okay, (*drumroll please*:p) I have changed my mind: no more Audrey Hepburn. Allara should definitely be played by Jennifer Garner (with darker hair though:D).

And I realized I forgot to cast my remaining POV character: Orias (used to be Elarn) Fett, loner and warrior of the Cherazii (an elf-like race): Jude Law.

Ransom v. Unman
08-15-2007, 12:58 PM
Jude Law would make a good elf... Or Dúnedain. If Viggo Mortensen hadn't nailed Aragorn so well, I myself would've gotten Jude Law to play the part.

Question Tarin - Orias Fett? This sounds very similar to my second-favourite Star Wars character... Coincidence?

Well, "Fett", properly speaking, exists far outside the context of what fits into the Star Wars universe - that is, what George Lucas can sue you over. :p

Off the top of my head, I know Fett is a German word meaning "fat, greasy, unhealthy."

Now, if you named the character "Orias Kenobi", then we might have problems. ;)
