View Full Version : It's done
You all have given me great advice.
Though I rescued Postcards From Paradise from you know who, there isn't a huge market for Christian teen romance literature. The teens that proofed it, liked it, but the one publisher that was interested, decided it was too trendy.
I hope to, someday, do a rewrite on Postcards from Paradise BUT FOR NOW I decided to make it available through Lulu. With this project complete, I can spend time on other projects and I will still have Postcards available to show people when I do book talks and other projects.
I feel better about the decision all ready.:D
Though we did an e-book, my son and I were surprised that the paperback only took a few minutes to complete. I can't wait to see the finished project!

Y-e-a!!! Congrats! Your feelings about it give you closure, so to speak. Do keep us updated. I'd really like to know. Am thinking of doing the same. May you do well. Blessings. !thumbsup!
I was looking on the site at the church library with a friend and realized I had made a silly mistake (chapters & numbers in contents no longer jive) so I will have to take it down and download it again, it should only take a few minutes this time. I will set the preview chapters up tomorrow, perhaps and will write a press release for the local paper as soon as I have viewed my own copy.
The closure is good and what money I make is going to Samaratan's Purse anyway.

Toni, when I uploaded my NaNovel to Lulu.com, I discovered that the conversion process affects the way the pages fall.
I went through my document, inserted page breaks at certain places, etc., re-uploaded, checked the preview several times before I had it the way I wanted it. You might want to do that -- as soon as the conversion is done, look at the preview document, take notes on where things fall as to page numbers, adjust your table of contents accordingly, delete the converted document and upload the edited document. You'll be able to get it just like you want it.
And congratulations on getting your project available on Lulu. My experience with them was a positive one and I hope yours is, too.
In fact, when I looked at it this morning that is just what I found had happened. We tried to put up a new pdf to replace it, but that is not working. I think we might have made a mess. I have it on private for the moment.
How were you able to resubmit your material. I can't seem to figure out a way.

There's an edit selection when you are in your account, looking at your project, select 'Revise' and it will allow you to change things.
I deleted the files I had uploaded, then uploaded the newly edited files and did the conversion again. (I say "files" because I created two files -- a file with the copyright page, the dedication page, etc. with no page numbers, then the body of the book, with page numbers.)
And by the way, I tried uploading a pdf file I'd created with CutePDF and it just couldn't be fixed, kept messing up, so I just uploaded my wordprocessor files and allowed Lulu's conversion software to convert it to pdf. Worked like a charm.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
It worked! I was so upset and kept praying that God would let me know what I was supposed to do. I felt like such a failure about all of this. I got mixed up with that other publisher--then got so many rejections.
Adam (my son) said that maybe God didn't want me to publish this, so I said, "Lets get some pizza and make one more try. If this doesn't work, we will give it up." That was kind of like my fleece.
While he was gone I tried to settle my mind that maybe it wasn't to be. Then I got your message. We tried it (that one last time) and IT WORKED without a hitch.
When I get my copy of the book and see how it looks, I will send out some press releases and order some business cards--and work on my next project.

Great! Glad to be of help.
In the next few days I will have my web site updated and the preview page redone.
My sister worked all night and now all three are on my site, 2 e-books and Postcards from Paradise. I am so excited!

Cool! It looks great.
I used the same Lulu image for the cover of "...And Night Falls," just changed it a little bit, put the title over it graphically since the fonts available weren't what I wanted.

tlm, Your site looks great. Congratulations. Best wishes to you and Tommie Lyn. !thumbsup!
Thank you Lynnmosher.

That is SO funny!
I had a co-worker draw the cover for my first book. It was from a sketch I gave to him.
Johnny was very disfigured after the accident so I wanted a very subdued book cover for his story.
When I saw that cover I knew I had to use it for Postcards. If it had had a girl walking on that beach it would have been totally perfect!
Let's hope the cover does us both some good!
I just got my book and really like it. The book itself is a bit bigger than I thought it would be, and the font is also bigger, but that's okay--its much easier to read. My son did the best he knew how in setting it up.
There is one small error. giggle giggle. The pages aren't numbered! How funny is that. We will go back and find out how we undid the footer and number the pages again.
Other than that I am ready to start promoting. Whenever I get the money to buy something from the Samaritan's Purse website, I will list it on my site, so those who buy the book will know where the profits are going and what has been done with money earned from the book.
Won't it be cool for people to read how the book helped buy chickens for the village to have eggs or a new system for purifying water for the community?
How's this, my son did as well at setting up my second book as PA did setting up my first one. At least my son spelled my name right.

Wow! Way to go! And I love Samaritan's Purse. That was our gift to my mother last Christmas. Good luck and God bless your efforts. !thumbsup!
Way to go! Isn't it a thrill to see your work in print? May God bless all your endeavors.

Toni and Tommie Lyn, I am seriously considering Lulu for my book, possibly an e-book as well as print. Can you give me an idea as to the cost? Please feel free to PM me if you would rather. Thanks!
I haven't really promoted anything I have on Lulu yet so I haven't made many sales.
Cost depends on the services. Mine has cost me nothing so far. They take their fees out of the sales.

Toni, Sorry to bother you but I have another question. If you mentioned this, I don't remember. How long did it take you from the time you entered your book on Lulu until it was up and until you got your hardcopy? Did you pay for book design service? Some of this is a little overwhelming.
Not long, maybe a couple of weeks.

Thanks, Toni!!! !thumbsup! I think I'm going for it!
Great news. I just talked to some teacher friends and I think I am actually going to write some lesson plans for my book so Lit. teachers at private schools can use it for class. I can use it to cross over to geography, science, and vocabulary class. I will post those things on my web site for teachers to copy and use. Perhaps that will encourage sales.
