Does anyone have comments about which approach works best?

Option 1: Stick 1 or 2 Article Directories to post content to. Continue posting only to those two, to create a library of your content and become known as 'expert' in your field. (Idea here is reach may be small, but number of articles bring an aura of expertise.)

Or

Option 2: Always search for new article directories (preferrably ones with highest google ranking). Start posting to new article directories, in addition to ones you previously were posting at. (Idea here is posting more place gives you great chance of being seen, but takes more time to build up big library of content, because you're spreading around among so many directories.)

Hey there Elizabeth;

I guess my question in response to this is -- Where exactly are you looking to develop a presence? -- Are you looking for community, regional, State, or national presence?

Yes, what is your ultimate goal?

If you want to be an author or work for national magazines, posting at article directories isn't going to help you at all. But if you want to lead people to your blog, ezine, website, books, etc., it might have some usefulness. In such a case, you're better off posting at the top sites, whatever they may be.

But you will never be considered a serious expert just because you post articles on the web.

Thanks for your response. My goal is to draw more people to my site for encouragement in God's Word. I'm looking for the best way to let people know free devotions, bible studies and other helpful web links are available to draw them closer to God. I want to reach more people with God's Word.

Then your plan to submit articles to freebie article sites is probably a decent one :)
