I am almost finshed with the Pilgrims Progress. The version I have has not only Christian's story but the story of his wife Christiana and her children.
One of their companions on the journey, is called Great-heart He was specially commisioned by the Lord to go with them and keep them safe. What analogy is Great-heart a part of? I must have missed the point. Can anyone who has read the story tell me?

NuWriter, I always thought he represented the Holy Spirit. However, I looked up a couple of references, which was very difficult, and two said he was a great soldier of God.

That being the case, here is a quote from the book:

But now Great-heart replied, I am a servant of the God of Heaven, my business is to persuade sinners to repentance, I am commanded to do my endeavour to turn Men Women and Children, from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God; and if this be indeed the ground of thy quarrel, let us fall to it as soon as thou wilt.

Is this not the Spirit of the Lord?

When Giant comes to meet him, he pulls out his sword. Sword of the Word? Here is another part, notice the word "arose":

He that did wear this head, was one
That Pilgrims did misuse;
He stopt their way, he spared none,
But did them all abuse;
Until that I Great-heart arose,
The Pilgrim’s Guide to be;
Until that I did him oppose
That was their Enemy.

I still can't help but think this is the Lord or the Holy Spirit, especially in light of his purpose. I'm probably wrong but that's how it seems to me. Maybe someone else knows better.

I agree with you. Based on His purpose, it has to be the Holy Spirit.

I am really impressed with your answer. I do hope that when I am in a quandry, (there's one of those commas) that I can count on you to be there with an answer.

Yikes! What have I gotten myself into? Oh, I have plenty of answers but they don't match up with any questions!!! LOL! Thanks (comma) revterry (comma) for the vote of confidence. (For those who have not seen the thread on commas will have no idea what I just wrote!)
