Well, my summer job of teaching 4 and 5 year olds ended Friday and I leave Tuesday for about 10 days in Virginia to visit an old friend.

I'll be trying to catch up on things but my publisher sent out an email on our loop about a contest. Here's the link: www.azbookpub.com. The contest is designed for Arizona writers whose books are set in Arizona, etc.

The submission fee is kind of hefty ... $60 or $70. Here's the thing. Because my book came out in December of 2005, I can still qualify to enter and haven't entered my novel in any contests. I think it has a chance (as any author would) and, because it also deals with a HOT issue in Arizona, would love to see how it does. It would be well worth the money should it win since it would get noticed.

I'm really looking for some "sane" advice.

Thanks a bunch.

Blessings, Francine

PS While I'm relaxing in Virginia, I'll have plenty of time to catch up here at CW. I've really missed it.

First off (and first on) - enjoy your old friend's company. Old friends (no matter their age) are of great importance, right?

Secondly (always come after what comes first) – :) enter the contest. You have already invested a great investment in your novel. The time and energy, and prayers it took to write, edit, rewrite … well you get the picture.

If your novel wins, well, so much the better. If it doesn’t win, what have you lost?

Certainly, you can’t figure you lost 60 or 70 dollars. Remember - it cost you more in time and energy to write the novel to begin with. And you’ve already admitted your novel is pertinent for the times in Arizona.

Remember this too – win or lose, YOU WON!

Trusting you to accept this “advice” in the spirit it was written.

Respectfully,

tlm

Scotsman, thanks for the encouragement.

And, tlm, it's nice to be back.

I think I'm going to go ahead and enter. Who knows, it's possible I could win and submission is exposure, right?
