Timing of Periodical Submissions

If a mag publ wants June items sent 3 mo's in advance (= December), but they might not actually open your submission for 8 or more weeks, do we tack on that added time? Also, some want holiday items 3 mo's in advance, others 6, others a whole year. Guess we have to look at each publication--but my first question remains. Thanks. Jeanette

When I query, I ask the publication when they would like to receive a period piece. It seems that each is different.

You have to consult their guidelines, because each magazine is a little different. It's better to add a month for them to actually get around to your query letter, etc., too.
