View Full Version : Question About a Publishing House

Has anyone ever heard of WindRiver publishing? I sent them a proposal a few months ago, and they responded and asked for a copy of my manuscript. A letter from them arrived today and they said they are interested, but aren't able to publish it at this time. I suppose their catalog is full (?). At any rate, the letter said that they will keep my materials on file and contact me again within six months to see if the manuscript is still available.
I've looked at the sticky on this forum regarding publishers one should shy away from, I've looked at Editors and Preditors, and I've checked Sally Stuart. They're a small press, but they look "clean".
I really don't know how to react to this. I've been trying to get this manuscript published for about three years now, and I'm a little tired of the emotional rollercoaster.
So...should I be excited?
Any counsel would be greatly appreciated!

I had never heard of them, so I Googled them (http://www.windriverpublishing.com/index.php?page=CAT&subpage=christian). None of the links showed anything negative. They look legit to me. From what I can see, they seem primarily interested in nonfiction with a focus on the LDS. I wish you well on getting your project published.

Interesting response. Hmmmmm. Usually they ask for the manuscript if they are interested irregardless of their publishing schedules but if they are small, perhaps they just don't have the personpower to read and respond. I'd give them a chance, write back if they haven't contacted you in 6 months and keep sending out your queries.

I would keep them in mind, but I wouldn't let it hold back from making other submissions. Don't wait on them. You might get another offer that is solid. If not, and months later WindRiver gets back to you and makes an offer, then your set.

Sorry Dr. Rita, I neglected to mention that they actually HAVE read the manuscript. Their response was in regard to that and not my proposal. I do have a couple of other proposals out there, but is it okay to be a little excited about this?
Thanks.

I think it's always okay to be a little excited! :) It's no promise; there is no guarantee, but there is also no reason to ignore hope. If it turns into something, GREAT!! If not, then you still have reason to hope because they said they like it. If they like, someone else will, too. It's just a matter of getting the right person at the right time. So, go ahead: let yourself be excited! Then get back to work on this or another project. ;)

I've dealt with these guys and they are legit. They held onto Doc DIlly for awhile, ended up not taking the manuscript, but they explained why and asked I not forget, but to try them again, that sort of thing. BUt yeah, they are s small press and they do things sometimes as they can..which doesn't always suit our schedules.
But, word of advice: ...you can get a little excited, but remeber: don't open the champagne till you have signed your name to a contract where they are paying you for what you write. Until then, it's still up for grabs. I'm sure they'll take an honest look at your work and after that...who knows?
