All I can say is happy writing! Oh, I don't know the link but there is a free macro out there to download for MS Word that formats everything to screenplays. Maybe a google would find it if that helps at all!

There are a few good free software programs that you can download. It is absolutely ESSENTIAL that you format the script properly!! I can't emphasize that enough. It all has to do with timing. Each page is supposed to be one minute of film . . . each line is one second. If not formated properly you get way out of whack on the film time.

Having said that, writing screenplays is as different from writing novels as song writing is from short story writing. It's a great challenge though, and I'd suggest you check out these links

I would love to do it but I'm too busy with new job and a film I'm shooting already. I also have other things in the hopper . . .

If you want to put up a thread that is about it and have questions, PLEASE do so and I'll check in to discuss your progress, answer any questions or direct you to good resources.

PS. You can post some of your work in the screenplay forum and I'll try to give feedback. Be forewarned though, the formatting is lost so just copy and paste it anyway.

Good writing!!!

I know Doc is fond of Movie Magic but I really like Sophocles Screenwriting Software (http://www.sophocles.net/).

WG is right, Sophocles is good and I'd recommend it too. (But he's also right, I do love MM!!)

aitak, my screenwriting professor Andy Anderson got me to use "hollywood screenplay". It's great and easy plus alot of professionals work with it, uncluding my professor. A free trial is available at http://www.ballisticware.com/download.html if you leave it open you'll never have to redownload it! haha...the one that lays over microsoft word is pretty good...but i recomend HSP just because format is a big deal with agents and people who read alot of screenplays, alot of times they'll toss your entire script before reading it, if they see that format is incorrect. Ummm...thats all I can think of, but I do alot of screenwriting, and I love it! It allows you to really step out of the world of past tense, and work with present at all times...If you ever have a question on format or anything else, please feel free to email me - luck, you'll do great!

I'm busy doing a complete rewrite of my "Matt" book, plus doing a course (when and if I can drag myself away from writing), so I won't have time to do something like this any justice. But you enjoy yourself and go for it.
