Before you publish anything, or even send in a submission should you have some sort of tax id #? Should you already have a seperate account for your earnings from books? I have a ministry and will be getting a tax number for that but should I have a seperate one for my writing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Susanne

From what I understand, as an individual writer, all you need is a social security number (in the U.S.) to get paid or whatever. If you're going to turn your name into some kind of giant publishing enterprise -- something I'd probably advise against you doing if you have yet to get published -- you probably don't need a tax ID number.

Ransom is right. As an individual consultant (of any kind) all you need is your social. Your social security number IS your tax ID number. Only when you start hiring people or become a conglomerate of some sort do you need to file for something else.
