Editorial Anonymous is a great blog by a children's book editor. If you want to write books for kids, ya gotta read it. But much of what's posted there is great for writers in general. I thought this post about the slush pile made me promise myself to never become an editor:

That was AMAZING! Thanks for sharing, Kristina.
Another editor - at Bleak House - has a You Tube video where she shows a single weeks submissions

Wow. Just...wow. (And this, on my first week of sending to slush!) .......
For some odd, stupid reason, though, wading through slush for gems still sounds fun to me. Or at least, rewarding. Someone probably needs to take a handful of 100 manuscripts and hit me along-side the head.
I guess I won't complain that my manuscript has been gone for 3 weeks without a reply.
(Joke coming) After all PA only took 24 hours to accept my manuscript.

5000:1. Don't you love them odds? I know my book is better than half. I'm pretty sure it's better than nine out of ten. But this is ridiculous. Fortunately I am not a gambling man, or I would be at the packie buying lotto tix instead.

Well, your chances of getting published are still much better than winning the lotto Paul, so don't go and do anything rash like giving up your MS or buying lotto tickets yet!
The odds of getting published being what thay are, are still better than the 1 13,983,816 chance you have of winning the lottery.

I just got a form letter from BJU Press. I have a 6 to 8 weeks wait. I guess that means it is in the slush pile for awhile.

I've heard that one of the best things to do when you send in a manuscript is to forget about it and start a new work. :)
Oh, and pat yourself on the back. Many haven't got so far as to send in one.

Sounds right. Otherwise you will lose your mind!
