I have a very interesting idea for a murder mystery. It is very challenging in many different ways. First off because I have never written a murder mystery before. Secondly it is a very sad and desturbing story with very shocking content. Thirdly, a part of it takes place in court and I have never seen a Criminal Case before. So therefore I have a few questions.

1. The basic idea is that a teenage girl gets pregnant, hides her pregnancy, gives birth and throws the child in the trash. She uses unassissted childbirth sites to get information about how to give birth alone. IS this too intense of a storyline? Why or why not?

2. Are there websites geared to give info on mystery stories if so what are they?

3. Are there any reference tools to help me to present a court case or the protocol and how a court case is run?

Thanks in advance guys.

watch law and oder LOL

Mostly just kidding, but it does help im too tired to say much tonight but i don't think it's too intense. I write a lot of things about cops and your best bet is to look up some forums, i found one no real court cases one night that helped me a little.

If i can find that link to that web site about court cases I'll post it here. You really should watch some law and order the original one they have more court cases there most of the time.

It's far too intense for the CBA, but I think the premise is actually necessary if you wish to make a point.

Child abandonment has been a human evil for all of recorded history, and was often tolerated and even endorsed by society.

Massachusetts passed a sanctuary law a few years ago. Hosptials, Fire and Police departments and some other facilities are advertised as sanctuary sites. A woman may leave her newborn there anonymously and will not be prosecuted. Then the baby will be put up for adoption. The law was passed in reaction to a number of cases where dead infants were found thrown in the trash.

So do write about the problem. Those children need a voice.

Speaking of Law & Order, there have been at least a couple of them with very similar story lines to what you are proposing.

That is not yet a "story," Hides, it is an "idea." You can take it different ways, in a range of genres. And you need characters, too.

It can be a police procedural, a legal thriller, a family drama, etc ... and the issue does not make it "too intense," what makes a story intense is the style/detail you choose to bring to the story, and to the intense scenes.

It is all up to you.

I have a pretty sweet spirited husband who's a Sheriff's Deputy and has been to court hundreds of times. Ask away - I'll pass on your questions to him if you'd like. About 10 years ago he was a Detective working crimes against children and sex crimes. Not pretty. There may be some other sources of that nature here on this site??

I agree with the other comments about being too graphic, but the light needs to be shared. My wip involves adultery. Not a nice Christian topic, but my prayer is that it will bring hope to marriages. There's so much hopelessness out there we must do what we can as writers to show that the darkness isn't the final victor.
