I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Tina and I am currently at work on a romance novel. I'd like to make it a time-travel novel, but how does that figure in when you're a Christian? Is it too new age? I'd be interested in what you all think.

Hey, Tina. WELCOME! Glad you found us. I don't see why time travel would cause any conflict with Christianity. Go for it! :)

I understand what you are saying exactly. I hope you move this question to the open forum or may be the writers lounge. I too have reservations about writing about time travel. I started a romance novel once with some time travel in it and found it hard to make it a real story with such a unreal part of the story staring me in the face.
I had a problem with her praying and then stepping back in time something that can not be done. I've not finished that story not have i worked on it in a long time. I dont think it's sinful or wrong to write about fantasy or time travel i personally just have a battle with it.
Move this question to the writers lounge when you feel a little more comfortable here. It would be a great question and welcome. I think that you will feel right at home here. I felt normal when i found CW and learned that my way of life was normal well as normal as writers can be LOL.

Hi Tina
I see no problem with time travel as such. A novel can be instructive and inspirational, but I think people read novels primarily for the enjoyment of it, whether you want to call it entertainment, escapism, or comfort food. If they want pure instruction, they can read a sermon.
I think they like to read or see people do things that they cannot or otherwise do in their own lives. Time travel fits in that well. It doesn't mean you have to believe that it is possible.
If you ever want someone to read some of your stuff for feedback purposes, I would be happy to do so. I would say read it for enjoyment purposes, but much can you really enjoy an unfinished novel. You don't want to get too involved with the characters and then not know how things turn out. I would almost rather not get involved then.

Hi Tina, welcome to CW.
This forum is intended for introductions. Tell us about yourself here and pose your question about time travel in the 'Open Forum' - you'll get more response there.

I know they are secular, but have you read Diana Gabaldon's novels?

Welcome, Tina! I think you're going to like it here. Lots of advice and encouragement. Also seems to be a lot of fantasy writers and others interested in time travel.
