Hi guys!

I am working on a few writing projects and I have found myself very frazzled in doing so! I was wondering if anyone had any tips or pointers on effective goal setting and task/time management for a writer. I could really use some advice!

I'm by NO way an expert, but I've seen books, etc. say that you should write 30 minutes/day (even if it's an experimental jotting) and no more than 2 hours (to keep from getting burned.)

Obviously, if I could FOLLOW this guideline, I'd do a lot better, but it seems like sound advice.

Hope this helps a little and generates some discussion.

Find a manageable daily goal that fits your lifestyle and current aptitude. My goal is to write a minimum of 500 words per day and then a max of 1500 (unless I have a really good idea that takes more words than 1500 to express; doesn't happen too often though).

Well I can agree with the others not to burn yourself out I guess. However when I do feel the need and have the time I do about 2000 - 4000 words a day. It really has to do with how much of the story you can tell at the time. Also if you are finding that what you are typing is boring the hell out of you then your readers will more then likly be bored as well.

On a side note writing little stories can sometimes help you to be more inspired to work on your real project. I wouldnt devot to much time to it though. The most I write when working on a short spaz story is about 2000 words- probably less.

I trick myself into writing. I find a writing contest I want to enter. Then use the contest dead-line as my goal to finish whatever it is that I am writing for that contest. It works for me.

I finished at least two novels that way.
