Dear Writers,

One thing I often hear from writers is how they dread the writing of their book proposal; especially their query letters and synopsizes. I help ease that process. The proposal service includes a thoughtful, thorough reading, with a written overview, with manuscript notations. I will also give subsequent reads for the same proposal at no additional charge.

The mission of the Stepping-Stones Book Proposal Service is to help writers develop the best book proposal packages possible by giving them an honest critique and offering ideas for improvement with editing.

What I do:

Help the author develop an engaging query

Help the author compose a compelling synopsis

Help the author write a glowing author’s biography

Catch typos

Catch repetitive words and phrases

Properly format the author’s book proposal

Supply the Stepping Stones list of agents that accept email queries.

Fee:

Three-chapter Book Proposal which includes query, synopsis, author’s bio. For Stepping Stones subscribers: $85

How to Send Work: Please email me at mailto:rpkg@adelphia.net first if you are interested in having your proposal evaluated. I will critique and edit fiction only. No horror or sexually explicit material.

For over a year now, I have been struggling to put together a proposal package for my novel. When I learned of the services offered by Rita Gerlach, I jumped at the chance. Rita not only tirelessly edited the first three chapters of my novel, helping to make the sentences flow better and finding small mistakes I had missed, she put together an extraordinary proposal package. The query letter makes the reader want to know more about the book, and the synopsis is written tight and concise, capturing the heart of the story.

Not only did I find Rita’s work accurate and invaluable, the little notes of praise she jotted on the side lifted my spirits, giving me the encouragement to continue. Rita took the time to answer the many emails I sent seeking her advice, and spent hours researching, working to make my proposal the best it can be. Now I have a proposal package that is sure to catch the eye of an agent or publisher.

Rita Gerlach has thoroughly researched the publishing industry and knows the current protocol agents and editors expect in presenting queries and proposals for them to consider. In addition to talented writing, she has a gift for capturing the essence of a writer’s work that will in turn grab an agent’s interest in representing a manuscript to potential publishers. Rita’s natural enthusiasm and commitment comes from the heart, and this more than anything speaks volumes to agents looking for fresh and original stories to sell. Along with her know-how and sense-of-humor, she also has patience and persistence, two qualities that are the bedrock of book marketing. For writing, editing and marketing services, you are ‘in good hands’ with Rita Gerlach.
