I did a quick search here in forums on iUniverse and didn't see it as a thread title so I thought I'd bring it up.
Has anyone dealt with them? How's their credibility, etc. I've been told they are associated with Barnes and Noble and BDalton???
I'm interested in publishing tourist type info ... small, 5 x 7 type format that's sold in gift shops, etc. Living here in Cochise County with Tombstone just a hop, skip and a jump away, there is a market. Wanted to include my photography as well.
Would appreciate any advice or other recommendations, and of course, info on iUniverse before I go to their website.
Thanks.
Blessings, Francine -- who seems to be on a roll today:cool:
If you are self-publishing, why not go to a printer that doesn't want "up front" money, like Lulu.com or cafepress?

I was going to do that but was strongly encouraged by another author who has also done small pamplet/booklets that I need an isbn number on any publication I print???
I mean, I wanted to copyright and print myself. Guess I have lots of research to do.
Thanks, tlm

iUniverse is owned by B&N, I believe. They are either a POD publisher or a vanity publisher, I forget which at the moment. Anyhow, do a lot of research before going this route and know what you're getting into. That side of the publishing industry has a reputation that you need to be aware of. It's not necessarily bad, it's just different than traditional publishers.

DraperJC ... I agree with you wholeheartedly. In fact, I wouldn't consider anything but a "real" publisher for my fiction work.
My brother is a printer and, should I decide to do this, I may just buy a block of ISBNs and then have him print the booklets. That's probably more cost effective than anything else. Yes, iUniverse is linked with Barnes and Noble but my tourist/historical booklets will have a targeted audience of here in Cochise County. So, I don't need to distribute them except locally. I also plan on having them as eBooks on my website.
Thanks for the input ... it's always good to "talk it out" with others.

I believe you can buy a package from Lulu that includes an ISBN. I am not certain about that, though.

Francine, Lulu is basically a printing service with no setup fees. If you were looking for ISBN, they can do that for a (IMO) reasonable fee. I would trust Lulu over iUniverse, personally.
