I met him on a cool November morning at an office building in Burlington, Vermont. It was just above freezing outside, but he sat snuggly in his chair with the window half open. He didn’t look like the average preacher-long hair, t-shirt, jeans.

Dave Russell is the founder of Burlington Street Ministries and works with the homeless, runaways, college agnostics and prostitutes. He has a few strikes against him but God uses him to pass out Bibles, feed and clothe the homeless and tell everyone about Jesus’ love. After 37 years, the ministry remains strong.

Jesus has a habit of choosing people with strikes. While in Samaria, he rests at a well and meets a woman whose strikes include her gender, race, and living situation-she’s living with a man and has a five time losing streak on the marriage field.

What could a woman of reputation possibly contribute to Jesus’ ministry? Seemingly not much, but when she tells everyone in town about him Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, He told me everything I ever did. (John 4:39)

The story is encouraging. My past and present strikes are numerous but they don’t count me out unless I let them. Jesus’ blood is sufficient to cover all past mistakes and his Spirit strengthens me to serve him presently. Others may reject me; he never will. Failures don’t disqualify us unless we choose to maintain a course of disobedience. Repentance and obedience make hits every time.

Prayer: Merciful God, when we’re depressed over the past, remind us our present and future are as bright as we let You make them. www.lovelinesfromgod.com

I received this by email and thought it would be a great way for this wonderful CW family to pray together. Maybe we can turn the tide of the insanity our country as dived into. I would also like to ask my brothers and sisters who live in other countries to pray for our nation so that, we together, can build the world for Jesus Christ and make manifest the Kingdom of God. Where two or three ... or hundreds ... are gathered ... What do you think? Who is with me? Thank you.

ONE MINUTE EACH NIGHT

This is the scariest election we as Christianshave ever faced, and
from the looks of the polls, TheChristians aren't voting Christian values.
We all need to be on our knees.

Do you believe we can take God at His word?Call upon His name, then
stand back and watch His wonders unfold. This scripture gives us,as
Christians, ownership of this land andthe ability to Call upon God to heal it.
I challenge you to do that. We havenever been more desperate than now for God to heal our land.

This election is the scariest I canremember in my lifetime. 2 Chronicles
7:14. "If my people, which arecalled by my name shall humble themselves,
and pray, and seek my face and turn fromtheir wicked ways, then will I
hear from heaven, and will forgive theirsin, and will heal their land."

During WWII, there was an advisor to Churchill, who organized a group
of people who dropped what they weredoing every night at a prescribed
hour for one minute, to collectivelypray for the safety of England, its
people and peace. This had an amazingeffect, as bombing stopped.

There is now a group of peopleorganizing the same thing here in America.
The United States of America, and ourcitizens, need prayer more than ever!!!
If you would like to participate, eachevening at 9:00 P.M.Eastern Time
(8 PM Central, 7 PM Mountain, 6 PMPacific), stop whatever you're doing,
and spend one minute praying for thesafety of the United States,
our troops, our citizens, for peace in theworld, the upcoming election,
that the Bible will remain the basis forthe laws governing our land,
and that Christianity will grow in theU.S.

The boy who cried wolf- where IS your faith?
Last night our family took our adopted Grandma out to dinner to celebrate her 72nd birthday. It was adorable when the servers started singing and clapping "happy birthday" and she looked around to see whose birthday it was! As they came closer to our table she started giggling. My kids were thrilled to surprise her like that!

On the way to dropping her off at home, my eleven year old son and her were talking about wolves and coyotes. When we lived out in the country years ago, my husband and I used to see coyotes often but my son was too young to remember. He really wanted to see one himself and my plan to look one up on the Internet didn't seem to satisfy his interest. As we waved our good-byes to our grandma, he eagerly said, "daddy, when you pull out, will you turn toward that field right there and shine your lights so I can see a wolf?" Instantly I began trying to figure out what to say when he didn't see the "wolf." But as my husband and I gazed into the field my son squealed with delight as we watched a furry gray shepherd sized coyote gallop across the field! I kid you not. We did a double take. In my son's words, "that is so cool! It's like God just dropped him right down in the middle of the field just for me!" Yup, he did buddy, he did.

So, how very simple that was. My son wanted to see a "wolf" and God set one down in the middle of a field at 8:12 pm on a Saturday night. How many times have you been like me though? There is a need or even just a want and we ask God, while in the back of our mind we expect it not to happen or at least we plan for the worst. Maybe that is why Jesus tells us in Matthew 18:2 And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Children's eyes are not clouded by the realm of negative possibilities. They are not jaded. They simply believe. My son's request was not a whine and a plea, it was a simple matter of fact nonchalant request in the same tone of voice as he would ask for desert after dinner. The answer was just as bold. To me, it was stunning. Why was I surprised?

Just to be sure I got the message, my son asked for a free...yes free john boat for hanging out in our swamp out back. Naturally, he went out for two hours today with dad and came home with a free john boat. He came running inside to tell me and said with a gleam in his eye, "see mom, it's just like the wolf. God gave me a boat." Of course he did buddy. Of course. What are you needing today? What do you long for? Are you waiting to earn it? Do you feel undeserving? Are you expectant or are you like I was, planning for it not to happen? Be like a child. Ask openly and expectantly. Hebrews 11: 1 says "Now faith is being sure we will get what we hope for. It is being sure of what we cannot see."

Expect your blessing. Be hopeful. Watch for it. Your answer is waiting for you.

Dear heavenly Father, forgive me for not expecting your blessing and for doubting your faithfulness. Thank you for loving me so much and for being my hope. I ask expectantly and gratefully, for you alone know the deepest desires of my heart. Amen

Hello everyone, I'm an empty nest mom of four, who works part time as a legal assistant, and enjoys writing. I was a contributor in a devotional for military wives and moms (my son was in the Marines). I also contribute articles and books reviews to a couple military sights as well as to a sight for families with special needs children.

I am looking to spread my wings a little more and desire to take the plunge of submitting articles for magazine publications, but feel having some critiques first will give me a little more confidence. Also look forward to reading about other's journeys as we all travel the road of writing.

I am new to this site and very excited to be here. This site seems to have a little of everything for writers. There is so much to learn and so many people from whom to learn about the writing and publishing process-and so many wonderful writers! What a blessing!

My colleague and I have been looking for Christian writers who would be interested in contributing to a book we are working on called "Our Favorite Verses." We are looking for your accounts, 500-1500 words, of how a passage of scripture or a verse from the Bible has significantly impacted your life. If your story is chosen it will be included in the book and you will receive credit. Please send it via e-mail to favverses@gmail.com on or before April 20, 2012. Be sure to include the verse and which Bible translation you use (NIV, KJV, etv.) We look forward to reading your stories!

If you would like to see a sample essay we can send you the one that was published in Think Magazine in November.
