Psalm 119.52

Comfort - in the face of conflict

“I have remembered Your ordinances from of old, O Lord, and comfort myself”

The word "comfort" does not seem to be as widely used today, in church circles, as it once was. In our day, many people want deliverance from certain situations or afflictions, whereas, in times past, God ministered comfort to the believer, which strengthened them to persevere in the face of many difficulties.

For the second time in a few verses, Dav...

Modern masqueraded monsters maintain mirages, misleading many

Moreover meaningless monotony misleads musing minds.

Mocking machines manufacture meaningless methodical melancholy

Murmuring molten mischief melts meandering mystics

Moonlit midnight mocks mauled martyrs

"Experience is the best teacher,” sages say. But during the six years I spent as a grade schooler in Claveria Central School (CCS) in my native town Claveria, Masbate, one teacher stood as the finest among her colleagues in the academe, inspiring young minds to think analytically and creatively and motivating them to pursue their dreams wholeheartedly and purposively. Teaching in a public school in rural areas in the Philippines is definitely a strenuous job to venture into, teacher's salar...

Time and time again they remember the past and linger over the words “if only .... “ If that situation parallels your experience, I would like to draw your attention to the 8th chapter of Zechariah,...

Psalm 119.51

Encountering arrogance

“The arrogant utterly deride me, yet I do not turn aside from Your law”

When we read, stand on, and openly confess God's word as the only solution to our problems, we often find that we immediately encounter hostile opposition.

Why does this occur? Just as God always encourages us to read and remember the word, so the enemy, as the parable of the sower informs us, tries his level best to steal the word from us.

Tiny little feet

I love the sound of tiny little feet’
Pitter patter sounds so neat’

My children used to run and play’
It never seemed to end the day’

I did not realize, what I had back then’
Now that I’m a grandpa, I can only remember when’

Psalm 119.50

The necessity of the word

“This is my comfort in my affliction, that Your word has revived me.”

In this verse, David continues in a similar theme from , by repeating and emphasising, the timeless and priceless benefits of God’s word.

There are two truths in particular which David mentions - that God gives comfort in times of affliction and promises life-giving strength in very difficult and dangerous situations.
