I just wanted to make you aware of a writing contest.

Riders & Reapers ezine www.ridersnreapers.com

It's a Tale Spinning Contest

I la la love a good story! Down through the ages there have been fabulous Storytellers. In early America, Tall Tales
were the favorite and out of this era the still legendary Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill and John Henry rose from the
imaginations of brilliant storytellers. It is my understanding that Australia and Europe also have many legendary Tall
Tales and before the Tall Tale came the Fairy Tale. "Once upon a time...." still causes my heart to vibrate with
anticipation. Every culture has a history of Storytellers and yet, it is becoming a lost art. Riders & Reapers can't sit idly
by and allow that to happen! And for that reason and in celebration of a New Year, We are holding our first 'Tale
Spinning' writing contest. And here is how it will work:

* The Contest will be judged by three volunteer judges (*to be announced at the close of the contest)
* Each contestant will submit an original story of at least 500 words but no more than 1100 words with
an entry fee of $5 per entry (limit of three entries per contestant), a 3 x 5 card with title of entry, contestant's
name & address. (please do not include contestant name on entry as the entries will remain anonymous
during judging.
*Story must be fictional and written in the style of a parable, tall tale or 'Once upon a time' story . We
are not looking for basic fiction but rather a story written with elements that set it apart as a tale; some of
those elements would include but are not limited to; an unlikely or larger than life main character, exaggerated
details,a crisis/problem that is solved in a humorous, outrageous or outlandish way, characters
who use everyday language and operate in an everyday world but with a twist,animals/plants/inanimate
objects that perform unlikely tasks and( last but not least) a moral that can be meaningful/hysterical or tongue
in cheek comical.

*A minimum of 10 entries will be necessary for the Contest to proceed. In the unlikely event that fewer
than 10 entries are received by February 12,2007 deadline all monies will be refunded and Contest will be
cancelled.
*Cash prize will be awarded to one First Place winner. Cash prize will be 80% of all entry fees
20% will be retained by Riders & Reapers to offset cost of publication.

Example of a prize breakdown.
50 entries = a total entry fees of $250
First Place winner will be awarded $200
Riders & Reapers will retain $50

Winner will be featured in March/April edition of Riders & Reapers

All entries should be mailed to:

Entries are starting to come in. I just wanted to remind everyone that the deadline is February 12,2007. It is going to be great fun. Non winning entries will still be considered for future editions of Riders & Reapers ezine. You have nothing to lose except a few brain cells while trying to come up with the perfect entry.
