_____Has anyone here delt with an indi. writer web ring or something of the like? I've been thinking about starting a web site that will be home to indi writers. The idea would be sort of like an organized link exchange that is limmited to clean writers.
_____Anyhow, I'm just kicking around ideas like useal.

_____It's not mine. It comes from a site that I think Rita uses. I did a little trick and got the link to the main page. Let's see, was it bestsmilies.com or... hmm. I can't remmember it off the top of my head.
_____There is a turm called, indi. meaning indipendent. There are plenty of indi. publishers, but. Yes there's a but. I wondered if like music, there may be indi. writers, like indi. bands.
_____After posting this, I found an underground writers group. However, their site is a pain to look at, much less join them. I was thinking of starting a group of indi. writers with web-sites. Buying a domain, and making it a home base to be basicly a link exchange for like minds.
_____Ok that all sounded tacky. I need to run and play with my little girl. Ask any qustions if I didn't cover that well enough.

Sounds interesting. :)
Why don't you give us all here a full run down of what you're thinking. I for one didn't know anything about it until now and I doubt that I'm the only one.
So, now you've got some work to do. lol ;)

_____Well the basics... First: People would apply for membership. The membership would be updated once a month I guess. Anyhow, a member would need a site, clean work, a few chapters up to read at least, and willing to put the groups logo on the front of their site.
_____The benifits would be that people would click that logo, and be able to find your site among others. If you ever want to quit you can, but, let's say you get published and stick to us. That would mean you would be giving back to the community that helped you make it big.
_____That's the basic idea of it all. To build a site that links to many different places of reading, and maybe help some people make it big.
_____I came up with the idea because of my readers. They come to my site to get away from it all, and they grow attached to my characters. However, one person has actuly read everything on my site. She could take that logo (that dosn't exist yet), and read others work for the mean time.
_____Joining the group would basicly be free. You would be among other like minds, maybe make friends in your aria. Then, if I haven't stressed it enough, you could hit big, and do what every un-published person complains about, GIVE SOMETHING BACK!

Ah, now I see. :)
All the best with it.
I don't have a site up and running, so some of what you said went right over my head. I guess I'll understand more of the web etc as I go.

_____Well, I'm always kicking around ideas. Right now my dad just sent me one. He wants to publish my book under his record lable. Problem is, I know quite a lot more about the indistry at this momment than he does. I need to call him up today and cover the problems with his idea. ;)
_____It's just a matter of miss-prints, and cheeper ways of getting into things. I mean, I can get a bookbinding machian for $2,000-$3,000, and make sure the quality of each book is good. As time goes on I would save more for one reasion. To get 1000 books printed by a POD will cost about $4,000.
_____As you can see, when you start looking at that amount of books, you should just buy your own binder and printer. Who knows though, I could be wrong. I've been looking at all this for about three years now.

Pray about the thing with your father first. I personally would be scared of working with family or friends as I've seen it destroy too many relationships, so ask God to show you in no uncurtain way what He wants you to do. Hey, I maybe wrong, but what harm does it do to be sure? :D
I know what you mean about the costs and printing and POD and binding and the money and this and that and all the rest. Rip out feathers, jump up and down and scream.
I aproached a POD guy last year. He was suposed to print off 6 proof copies of "MY" book so that I could get it edited and send them back for him to do the changes. He skrewed with my book. Those 6 proofs where nothing like "MY" book  He had messed with sentances and his grammar was worse than a child at primary school and he was a teacher himself at high school. I couldn't believe the trash that he did! He put in so many mistakes that no one would bother to edit it for me and it gave me a headache and a whole lot of stress.
The only good things that came out of that was that now I know how he did it and that I could do better than him. Also, I'm now editing the book myself. An editer that I met told me I should send that guy a lawyers letter, but that costs more than I have.

Thanks !thumbsup!
The strange thing is that if it were done correctly, I think that POD might have some beneafits. Like if I did my own books the way that guy did, only better. One of the catches is that it would take time out of my writing, so I'm not really sure what I'm going to do. If I had the money I would approach a printer and get 3000 books done in one hit. Oh well.........

_____I would work on some sort of fan base first. IE: My dad wanting to print off my work. I told him I only have about twenty people interested in my work. No point printing off so many when many published authers can't even sell 100 books.
