I figured it might be a good idea to post resources here for quick reference.

Here's "A Guide to Italics, Quotes, and Ephasis" (http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1529153).

And here's a sample proposal for the novel, Oxygen (http://www.rsingermanson.com/assets/pdf/O2Proposal.pdf).

And, of course, the Snowflake method first introduced by Mr. Otis and hawked by myself everytime somebody around here sneezes (http://www.rsingermanson.com/html/the_snowflake.html).

Randy Ingermanson, creater of the Snowflake Method and author of Oxygen, has a site called Advanced Fiction Writing (http://www.advancedfictionwriting.com/index.html) with a free newsletter.

And now that I've posted it, it seems the newsletter is the main attraction on the site. I'm sure there's more to come though.

Thanks Doc. I especially appreciate the screenplay link. !thumbsup!

I guess I should add this from the agent thread:

How I check an agent is like this:

Go here: http://www.agentresearch.com/

Go to their services page, and sign up for their free agent verification. They'll give you a general page about whether the agency is legit.

Also, go here: http://www.anotherealm.com/prededitors/

Look up the agency. P&E has a really good reputation in the writing community.

Also, check here: http://www.sfwa.org/beware/

And finally, go here: http://www.google.com and search out the agency yourself. Odds are if nothing shows up at all except their website, then they've not been around long enough to make a name. Since there's really no rules regulating literary agencies just about anybody can call themselves an agent. No agent is better than having a bad agent.

Hope that helps.

One last thing. No matter what they say, no matter how convincing their sales pitch is, real agents don't charge up-front fees. Stay away from anyone who does. Real agents earn their money by selling your book, not by accepting you as a client.

I think this is a good thread to keep around. If anyone has any helpful links we can just keep adding. Sort of like a resource guide. !thumbsup!

I ran across this link on absolutewrite and thought it might be of interest to some of you.

http://www.godsize.com/storyguidelines.html

They pay but they do buy all rights to your story:

By submitting my article to Godsize.com I understand that it may or may not be selected for publication. If selected, I allow Godsize.com to retitle and edit my story for publication according to their policies. I relinquish all rights to the Godsize.com version of my story, and understand that I will receive monetary compensation after publication

If you have something you don't mind selling all rights to, check it out.
