The purpose of sense play, of course, is to exercise our abilities to describe using other senses besides seeing. So, using as many as possible of the other four senses,

1. describe a carnival.

2. describe Seaworld.

3. describe a rodeo.

For "extra credit," weave these descriptions into a couple of paragraphs as if they were part of a work in progress.

Sultry evening air laced with the alluring aroma of cotton candy, elephant dung, sweat, and cigars...The giddy song of the calliope, laughter, screams of pleasure, whining children tugging their wilted parents in opposite directions. greasy lips...lick...sticky fingers. Elation, curiosity, Victory: a fuzzy purple and orange bear... family...

The truck clamored to a stop and, stepping out of the vehicle, heat wilted her in an instant with the absence of the AC’s cool breath. But this discomfort was quickly forgotten as the pungent air assaulted her nose. It was the tangy sting of urine mixed with clogging dust and stale beer. At that moment a herd of people rumbled by her, pressing forward in one mass. Fighting the urge to duck back into the truck, she fell in line and allowed herself to become part of the throng trudging across the dusty parking lot.

The word was cacophony. That was the only way to describe the assault on her ears. Southern drawling announcers, merchandisers bellowing their sales pitch, the crash of massive hairy bodies rising from four feet to two and slamming into wooden fences. Yet the grand finale came as the crowd of hundreds erupted in one massive roar as 7 seconds ticked to 8 and the cowboys triumphed over the cattle once again. One down, more to go.

You had me going right to the end--I wasn't sure which you chose to write about. I eliminated Seaworld quickly, but it was a draw between the carnival and the rodeo. Perhaps "truck" should've clued me, but most folks in Texas drive one whether they live on a ranch or not!

Nice job!
