What's in a name? Here's a name that kind of hit me in the parking lot at Walmart. I had parked under a crabapple tree.

Judith Crabapple -- What type of character does she inspire? What's her physical appearance? Is she a Christian? Is she a true pagan? I'll post my take on here under a separate post.

Have fun with her.

Judith looks in the mirror and sees perfection. Well, why not? She's tall, thin (but not too thin). She has blond hair, natural of course, and clear blue eyes. She's almost 40 but no wrinkles. She wouldn't stand for that. At the moment she's wearing her pearl necklace, her little black dress, and her 3" heels. More than 3 inches and she'd be too tall. She takes another quick look and out the door she goes.

At the cocktail party downtown she's the perfect hostess. Absolutely everyone who's anyone anywhere is there. Being in the midst of society is her world and she loves it.

She has exquisite manners with everyone except the waiter who had the audacity to come without the right color tie. As a matter of course she always looks down on anyone who she considers a servant. She gives the waiter the look of disdain that she reserves for underlings. Her contempt shows mostly in her attitude toward the service she receives. The important people around her never notice. They are all entraped by her smile and her manners. No one even notices that she came alone.

Her husband left her this morning. He called her malicious and conniving. He said that he couldn't live with her nitpicking anymore. He even went so far as to say he hated the day that they met.

It doesn't matter to her. She's the hostess. She's the center of society's attention. She is Judith Crabapple.

Here lies the remains of Judith Crabapple
‘neath the sod surrounding her tree.
It won’t do for us to be sentimental
Lest Keith Wallis consider us twee.

Judith lived, and she died not knowing
her name inspired much glee.
The fact that we’re writing is showing
Her name had reason to be.

So we bid goodbye to Judith Crabapple
And thank her, post mortem, that she
Moved us to write a quick sample
Of how goofy our rhyming can be.

Judith Nora Crabapple sighed heavily and looked into the mirror again as she pinned her broach. My how she hated children but here she was teaching the little beasts to mind about going out of hers. She gazed over at her mother and her grandmother on the wall, both excellent teachers.
She came from a long line of school teachers, she wanted to go to college and become an artist. She was told often told by her teachers and friends that she had a real good talent but her mother would simply say," Who fills your head with such nonsense! How would you support yourself on art? Depend on some man to support that sort of frivolity?
Then there was James Guzouwski charming blue eyes like two gleaming Sapphires he had always believed in her. She could still here his laugh that could warm a cold winter day his golden hair struck by the sun. No he wouldn't do either, her mother would send him away. Sensible, practical, dependable, good old Judith always did what was told.
She could feel the anger rise up within her core, she sighed once more as she looked into the mirror. An angry, tear rolled down her face. She gazed at it as it slid down the contures of her face, how she felt so old, 27 and already she felt like an old maid.
She glared at herself in self loathing," This isn't going to help you Judith!",She thought angrily, "you've chosen your lot, you are a sensible woman after all and that's what you teach.
Judith sighed once more, pasted a smile on her face and turned and walked out to the coach that waited for her outside. Closing the door promptly, behind the hall in the open parlor one could here the slow ticking of a clock while a tear drop on the floor quickly dried and was gone.

Judith Crabapple - character sketch

"I'm Judith Crabapple! No one can deny me anything!" Judith thought as she quickly walked past the full length mirror and briefly catching her image from the corner of her eye. Judith is the daughter of a very high profile, high ranking military man and the wife to an equally successful husband. She has never been denied anything! All Judith had to do was suggest that she wanted something and it was hers before she could finish debating rather she would truely like it or not. She felt like royalty, usually, but not today. Today was somehow different. For the first time Judith was told no. Judith was in shock and couldn't believe how pale she looked as she passed by the mirror in her slim cut, light blue dress that showed off her well formed legs. Her arms were sunkissed and her long slender fingers where well manacured and had just the appropriate number of rings on each hand. Judith always wore accessories that would be appropriate for several outings throughout the day, she felt like she wasn't so frivolous that way.

Judith was hoping that today she would be able to fly into the war beaten city. She wanted to help the women and children to begin a new life. "Women can change the world, if we will stand up together and demand change! Judith began. I know it isn't completely safe just yet but neither is going down main street and if I don't get these women in motion now while the men are busy focusing on fighting the enemy it will be much harder later!" The argument went on for a brief moment longer. Then Judith realized she wasn't getting anywhere with this argument today. She would make her own plans and she would get to the war torn city and she would get to those women and children so they could begin their work now or she wasn't Judith Crabapple!
