I like romantic fiction, but I feel the majority is based on physical attraction and nothing else. The description of the sex are hardly edifying. I also dislike the fact that it almost always written from the man's point of view. He's the one looking for love and just happens to come across this beautiful woman whom he can't resist. As woman myself , I would like to see a story from a woman's point of view and of course with the right motives. I would like to see a story written about a married couple for once as they face the challenges of honoring God and each other. You can make the backstory sad if it would add conflict( i.e. one has lost of spouse, been in tough past relationship). To me this would be more of a creative challenge and would be interesting to read than the usual secular fare.

Salt, I'm not exactly clear on what your writing prompt is and the requirements you have (like, word count, etc.). Would you write the first story and demonstrate what you have in mind, please? You might check the other writing prompt threads to see how we usually structure them.

Thanks.

I am not posting any word counts limits or anything like that, I was suggestion of something I would like to see, but I am not capable of writing myself. I basically handing it off to someone who is much more capable than I am. I thought prompts were suggestions to simulate other thinking not for me write or to evaluate other writing . I am following the wrong format that I will not post here again until I understand it a little better. The idea is intentionally general, because it up to you. Writing is a fluid process. I cannot control your style, but I give suggestions on what I'd like to see.

Have you read christian romance? I like romantic fiction too, and your description above is what people find in the secular romances. I hate that the sex comes first and then, from the sex act the MC's discover they're in love. Blech!

I was looking for stories where the characters fall in love first before any physical relationship. I've found more of that in christian romances.

I'm actually writing a romance about a married couple that fall back in love with each other after a a time of physical seperation.

Sally sat on the couch and she looked at the clock. Why was he never on time anymore. If she could just get one romantic diner with her husband may be she could re kindle the fire they once shared. She sat tapping her fork against her plate. She'd given up and all ready eaten he meal his sat untouched.

She knew what she would have to do to get his attention. Slowly she rose from the table and went to change clothes. Sally knew where she'd find her husband and as she got dressed an idea formed in her mind. Her make up was put on a little heavy because she knew it would be dark in the pool hall.

She wasn't about to dress to cheap because then what would the people at church say about her. The jeans she put on were a little tight and the black shirt had two buttons un-done. After all it was her husband she was going to chase why not show off just a little.

Twenty minutes later she walked into Joe's pool hall. She knew where he'd be so she picked up a cue stick and began to set up a game. Her hair was hanging down around her face and she looked really good, not the usual hum drum that he seen at home. She walked over to where he was playing and tapped him on the shoulder right before he was ready to make a shot.

"Excuse me she cooed, I don't really know how to play, but I've got an hour to kill if you wouldn't mind helping out a young woman in need."

John turned quickly thinking the voice sounded like his wife. But when he turned and seen the beauty before him he could only smile. "What did you say?"

"I hear that your pretty good at the game and thought you might be able to teach me something." She placed one finger on the top button of his shirt and smiled and then winked.

"What are you doing here?"

"I got lonely, I wanted to see what all the craze was about. If you don't want to show me a few tips. I'm sure someone here would. I'd rather have the best teach me what he knows."

This time her touch was a little more aggressive and she pressed up against him and he smiled, nodded and put his hand on her back and followed her to the pool table.

Sally forgot she was married, forgot about all the mean things her husband had said to her that week and just put her heart and mind into having some real fun. John enjoyed seeing his wife like this, playful and flirting. As he leaned around her helping her set up a shot he couldn't help but be reminded of the wild nights they once had years ago when they'd first gotten married.

The next morning when Sally was fixing John's coffee she was standing there in her bath robe just looking out the window. There was a smile playing on her lips. John came up behind her and slipped his arm around her waist.

"Meet me at the pool hall after work?"

"It's a date."

I'm not sure this is what you were wanting but I hope that you like it.

It that bad or is it you don't want anyone to steal it? I know that how I feel because it is so personal I have hard letting anyone look at it.

JacksGirl,
It is start may be you could develop it into a short story or something. Fireproof sounds like the type of story I'm talking about.

I just wonder how many angles you could do? It seem like all the formulas have been used.

It's that bad! LOL. :)

I haven't done any editing at all. This is my first draft of my first ever novel and I'm just trying to get the story out. I've got 11,000 words down so far.

I'm not worried about anyone stealing it. As soon as I've done some polishing myself it will be up in the critique forums.

Was Fireproof a book before they made it a movie? The previews look like it will be good.

There's a book called Breaking Point by Karen Ball (or Bell?) which is christian fiction about a marriage on the rocks and how God leads them back. It wasn't as romantic as I like my stories so I didn't put it on my list above...however I thought the portrayals of emotions were very real.

i am going to show you a bit of a story i have started
Dylan sat down at the table and watched Megan cook at the stove. They had only been married three weeks but it felt like Megan had always been there. Dylan knew when he met Megan that she was the one for him. He just wanted to get her to notice him, a quiet boy, and a year younger than her at school.
Megan turned around and saw Dylan looking at her and smiled. She couldn’t help a slight flush coming to her cheeks. She wasn’t used to having a man just watch her, even if that man was her husband. She knew that Dylan liked to look at her, but it was still a little unnerving.
Dylan stood up and came to stand right behind Megan. “Hi Meg,” he said as he put his arms around Meg and looking over her shoulder. “What are you cooking?”
“Food, actually I thought I would make you some nice stew for tonight. You are going to be hungry when you come in tonight.”
Dylan turned her around in his arms. He looked down at her and said, “what makes you think I am going anywhere today? I thought I could spend the entire day with my wife.”
“Oh really? But I know that we do need some wood chopped for the fire. How about you do that, and then I will come and sit with you before lunch. Now go,” she said pushing Dylan away from her and towards the back door.
Megan watched him walk out and she couldn’t believe that she had found such a wonderful man to marry. From the first time she had met Dylan, she had thought he was handsome. He had told her she was pretty the very evening that they had met.....

A few years later Megan and Dylan had decided to get engaged and then married and here they were. Newlyweds and the happiest they had ever been. Megan had made this place a home. He had lived in the house, but it wasn’t a home until Megan began putting her little touches in it. On the mantle piece was photos of both families. There were always fresh flowers on the table, and something delicious for his meals. He didn’t know how he had lived before Megan, now he knew he really hadn’t....

Oh Dylan, that feels wonderful.” Megan said with closed eyes. She felt Dylan move and felt herself being pushed back. She kept her eyes closed as Dylan kissed one eye and then the other. He slowly feathered kissed over her face lightly teasing her lips with brief kisses. Megan put her arms around his neck and pulled him closer. He then kissed Megan soundly, remembering the reason Megan and himself had decided not to have a long engagement. They were attracted to each other physically, and had always had to fight the temptation to go further than they should. Both believed you should wait until you were married and both of them had to fight the temptation not to wait.
Megan loved the way Dylan could make her feel, and remembered the joy of discovering each other on their honeymoon. She couldn’t help but give herself over to the way Dylan made her feel. She knew he had loved the way she had sighed with pleasure as he put his arms around her. The first night when they laid in each others arms as they fell asleep was blissful....

I have written more, but the premise is her reconciliation with her sister and Dylan & Megan starting a family.

this is another about a married couple....

“Jess, don’t pull away from me. Let them see us as a couple in love. What we have is healthy and right. We don’t have anything to be ashamed of.” Michael said as he held Jessica in his arms. Jessica relaxed and let herself be held.
Michael and Jessica had just become the new parents of 9 year-old twins, a boy and a girl and a 12 year-old girl. Jessica’s best friend Tania had just died in a car crash leaving her children to whom she thought would best look after them. Her husband hadn’t been seen for about 7 years. He had left Tania when he had found out she was pregnant with the twins. He had come back once when the twins were 18 months old, saying they weren’t his.
...
. Neither had expected to have children after being married three months. They weren’t at all prepared, and living away from home and family meant they didn’t have much of a support system. All they could do was their best, it was what Tania had wanted....
“Your mother was my best friend and she wanted me to look after you when she died. Michael and I don’t want to take your parents’ place, but we want to help you out as much as we can. We care about you, because you are special as everyone is and I believe that we have been given the job of helping you grow up. Michael and I do want to have children one day, but that won’t mean that we will ever stop loving you. Michael and I have only been married for three months so this is all new for us too.”
“But won’t your kids hate us for being here?”
“Look, we care for you and love you. It will be a while before we have children. I don’t know what my kids will be like. But that doesn’t matter at the moment.”
...
It was going to take some time to adjust to having three new people in the house. Jessica and Michael had barely adjusted to each other let alone three more people.
Michael had always said that they needed time alone after they got married. He used to come up to her all the time during the first week at home and kiss her. Jessica felt uncomfortable with kissing and hugging with others watching. This morning was the first time the children had caught them in an embrace. It didn’t look they were going to get much time alone.
....Jessica didn’t get up straight away. She felt confused, they had always said they would wait, but she wanted her own children sooner rather than later. She had never considered her self ‘clucky’, but she wanted to mother her own babies. Hearing the dishes clattering she got up to help Michael. It was such a normal thing to do the dishes. She knew though, that life was never going to be normal again. Three children made a big difference....

That are just acouple of stories i have done, but most are romance before they get married
