Change to the TOS (Terms of Service)

I've just changed an item in the TOS (terms of service) to allow for greater freedom in posting links on CW. This doesn't mean we're allowing advertising or spam--far from it! I'm simply giving greater leeway for on-topic links by members in introductions and discussions.

Here is the new guideline:




- While relevant, on-topic links are acceptable, we do not allow advertising outside the "Ads & Services" forum. If it feels like an advertisement, don't post it. Members may place a small, subtle link to their writing-related sites or work in their signatures, but we do not permit any spam or off-topic links.

Thank you, Rebecca. I think this was a needed change. I've often felt that a link to one's work, while an announcement and not advertising, should be allowed. Thank you so much for being open to change. I'm sure others will be happy as well.

To a degree. We still don't allow advertisements or plugs. If it reads like either, it's a no-no. If you're unsure, post it in the Support Forum and ask, first.

I think the only link I put was to www.answersingenesis.org, on a creation thread, which is the website of a creationist not-for-profit group.

That's fine, as long as it's in the context of a discussion. If you're interested in posting links to sites outside of discussion, you can do so in the Resource Directory (http://christianwriters.com/links/index.php).

Well, fiddlesticks!

While I missed the old rule by all of 5 days, in my intro thread I did link to something I wrote as an explanation of why I didn't quickly respond.

What should I do?

These aren't something I can possibly make money with (fanfics) and I'm not sure about posting novel length text in the SciFi section given what I read there.

Rurudyne, In regard to posting your novel, many do, dividing their chapters as the limit is 2500 words. I don't know what you want to post as a link, but if it is one where you do a column, or your website, or frequently submit articles, why not use the links in your signature?

lynnmosher ... using the signature sounds like a good idea!

Especially since the chapters in Genesis or Forgotten Wars tend to be longer than 2500 words. ;)

Maybe I should ask about posting the opening bits for either with a link to the rest?

Rebecca, would that be an ok option for these novels? What would be preferable?

The short story wouldn't be a problem for chapter length. The only possible issues with that story are that some of the characters have had interaction with human society, American entertainment culture in particular, and have picked up some mild bad habits from us (frankly, I'm a poser when it comes to cussing anyway ... so it's just as well because I couldn't pull off a "regular bad habit"). There is actually a subtle contrast in the works (between those not familiar with humans and those who are) with respect to that last.
